[fic] Kyuhyun/Zhou Mi – SJM – Because of You – Oneshot

Title: Because of You
Author: [livejournal.com profile] fonulyn
Rating: PG13 (language, implied intercourse)
Pairing: Kyuhyun/Zhou Mi
Disclaimer: I own no one, only my dirty imagination.
Summary: All Zhou Mi ever wrote were sappy love songs. Except when he fell in love. Then he wrote a masterpiece.
Comments: This is what you get when I have a half an hour long gap between lectures and when my mind is stuck on the new SJM song. That is not the song referred to in this fic but it sure helped me along XD And honestly? I’m quite pleased with this.

All Zhou Mi ever wrote were sappy love songs. He knew they were pretty good, and usually he only wrote lyrics anyway, but that wasn’t enough for him. He had always wanted to write an entire track all by himself, and he wanted it to be different. He wanted it to be something special. So he never showed his unfinished works to anyone, guarding his plans from curious eyes the best he could.

Everyone knew how he was with that. So everyone was equally surprised when he told them he had something to show.

It was a slow Monday afternoon and for once they had nowhere to be, nowhere to go. Zhou Mi made them all sit down in the hotel room he shared with Kyuhyun, nervously fiddling with his computer as he set up the small loudspeakers. “The sound isn’t that good with these but the laptop’s speakers suck even more so…” he explained with a small shrug, shooting a hesitant glance at his friends. They were sitting on the beds, two singles pushed together to make a double.

And they were looking at him expectantly. Swallowing hard, Zhou Mi pressed play, and music filled the small room.

The song had been a part of Zhou Mi for long now. It started as an itch somewhere close to his spine, burning under his skin and sleeping in his veins. It feels like it always was somewhere deep inside of him, trying to find a way out.

Maybe people are right when they say good things only come slowly.

The first notes of the soft prelude floated into his mind when Kyuhyun first kissed him. It was sudden and unexpected, despite the fact that they’d been circling each other for what felt like an eternity. Then, in that very moment, he could hear the tentative melody in the back of his mind. It was only fleeting notes, hard to grasp and he froze, almost forgot to kiss back as he tried to seize the melody. It was like a whiff of colour in the corner of his eye, escaping when he turned his gaze to follow it.

And when Kyuhyun brushed his fingertips over his cheek, cupped the back of his head and pulled him in for a deeper kiss, the tentative notes turned to blazing music in his ears. He kissed back and his world stood still, focused on the soft lips on his own, the sweep of a hot tongue and the ethereal music that surrounded it all.

The next part of the song was almost too hard in comparison, the fragile story of the prelude breaking like the tide that hits the shore, crumbling down to electric notes and deep guitar sounds. The contrast between the beginning and the next part was softened by the never changing deep undercurrents of it all, familiar in its rhythm.

It was when he realized he had fallen in love. Deeply, irreversibly. The notes were haunting him in his sleep, teasing, turning, only to then slip between his fingers into nothingness. It took him forever to grasp, forever to arrange and forever to be satisfied with it. He changed the part what felt like a million times, never quite happy with the outcome.

He knew how it should be, but it never was quite right.

Everything clicked into place at a completely unimpressive moment, in the middle of an interview. They were asked the same questions time once again, his answer rolling off his tongue with well-practiced ease. He smiled, nodding his head as if to signal he was done and smoothly it was Kyuhyun’s turn to speak, then Siwon’s, then everyone else’s.

The attention was directed elsewhere when he felt Kyuhyun’s fingers brush over his knuckles softly, the touch barely there but enough to make him look up. Kyuhyun wasn’t looking at him, he pretended that he was listening to the interviewer, but there was a hint of a smile caressing those full lips. And when Kyuhyun ran his thumb over Zhou Mi’s knuckles again, giving his hand a faint squeeze, he knew.

So it wasn’t really when he realized he had fallen in love. It was when he realized that Kyuhyun loved him back.

If the beginning was soft and the following part was rough, the chorus was something in between.

It was like a storm in the middle of a sunny day; heavy raindrops and lightning hammering down on the earth but the last rays of sun still persisting, the lingering memory of the blue sky on their minds. It was passionate and sometimes near violent, but the steady beat never ceased, taking the edge off the most extremes.

Zhou Mi would never forget when he wrote that part. It would always come back to him, lured from hiding by burning touches and feverish kisses. It was Kyuhyun moving so deep inside of him, so hot and hard and perfect, dropping butterfly kisses on his face, his cheeks, his nose, his eyelids. Hot breaths on his skin, murmured confessions in the crook of his neck, while the music was pounding through his veins.

Every movement turned into music. Inwardly Zhou Mi swore that if he could capture even a fraction of the intensity from Kyuhyun’s gaze into the song, it would be suffocating. It would overwhelm, captivate, and it would never let go.

Afterwards he listened to the steady beat of Kyuhyun’s heart, finding the last missing piece for his composition in that strong current that flowed through him.

In the dark, he smiled against Kyuhyun’s skin. Finally complete.

The first reaction to the song was stunned silence. It lasted so long that Zhou Mi was beginning to fiddle a bit nervously, shifting his weight from one foot to another. He already opened his mouth to say something, before he was cut off. “This…” Ryeowook spoke what everyone else thought. He could see it in their eyes, wide and stunned. Of course, what he wrote before wasn’t bad, he knew it. It was just so different. No one had expected this from him. “This is brilliant.”

It was just a demo, put together with whatever Zhou Mi could manage with his own voice and computer mixing. It was an imperfect sketch and still everyone could hear what a diamond in the rough it was. It’d be amazing. And after a short pause they all burst into loud praising, making Zhou Mi blush, thoroughly pleased.

The attention was shifted away from him as the others began comparing their favourite parts, playfighting over them and who would get to sing what. Zhou Mi watched it all with a proud smile on his lips, like a father sees his child being accepted. After all, the song was something like a precious child for him.

He didn’t even notice Kyuhyun before there was a pair of arms wrapped around him from behind, a chin tucked on his shoulder. “You are brilliant.” The compliment was whispered softly into his ear, and coming from Kyuhyun it meant twice as much.

Maybe one day he would tell Kyuhyun what the song was all about.

Could someone please tell me why I write million things, several pairs, but all I can finish these days is QMi?

Feel free to add our journal if you like the stories!
Plus, the archive.
