[livejournal.com profile] fonulyn: This is what I scribbled down for the D/K Oktoberfest travel week. It’s short, and kinda mushy (I blame the weird emotional mood of mine XD) but it has this certain mood that should fit the season and at least here in Finland the autumn is rapidly turning to winter. So, I hope you like it, despite the shortness :)

And feel free to add our journal if you like the stories!
Plus, the archive.

Haven of My Heart

The screeching voice of a seagull was the only thing that reached Die’s ears as he stood right there on a deserted beach, close to the ocean and yet far enough not to get his feet wet. The wind was icy cold and it felt like it was blowing right through him, all the way down to his bones. Shivering, he wrapped his jacket tighter around himself to keep the cold wind out, tucked the collar up to shield his bare neck the best he could. It was almost winter already, it wouldn’t surprise him if they would get the first snowfall soon.

Despite the coldness, he had no intentions to leave the beach. This was exactly where he wanted to be. In crass contrast to the freezing wind there were the warm rays of sun that were still warming his face when he tilted his head to look up to the sky. It felt like summer and winter were fighting over the exact moment. Or maybe they weren’t fighting, they were merging together, becoming one until no one knew which was which. The sunlight was just enough to create an illusion of warmth, yet not to warm properly.

It wasn’t the warmth of the sun Die was after. It wasn’t the delicate moment that made him stay, or the fresh breeze of wind. The reason was something much more tangible. Much less poetic, some would say, but Die wouldn’t agree. The reason for him staying there was the most poetic of them all.

Kaoru.

Die turned his head to the right, only to see Kaoru still standing on the sand close to him, water washing ashore and hitting his feet. The sight made him smile, and since he knew no one was paying any attention to him he dared to go on watching. The older man had closed his eyes and tilted his head backwards, obviously enjoying the way the sun warmed his face. The rays of light were dancing on the surface of the water, reflecting from Kaoru’s dark hair and for a second Die could’ve sworn it was Kaoru who was glowing, not the sun.

Love.

He could feel this certain warmth flood his whole being, shoot from his chest to the furthest edges of his body, all the way to his toes, to the tips of his fingers. He wasn’t cold any longer. He could hardly feel the ruthless wind anymore, the way it was trying to blow off everything from its way with the sheer power of its will. He didn’t even feel the warmth of the sun, didn’t hear the distant sounds.

His world was only revolving around the way those deep almond eyes opened, how the dark orbs were directed at him and how the mere intensity of that single gaze was enough to root him to the spot.

Kaoru looked straight at him, and all Die could do was to look back and smile. Something passed between them there, right then, with no words needed. The distance between them ceased to exist, the rest of the world didn’t matter. It was just the two of them, the silent understanding of something far greater than any words could ever tell. Die had never believed in love. Yet in a moment like this, he was convinced that he had been wrong all along.

Kaoru.

Love.

Those two were one in Die’s world.
