[fic] Onew/Key – SHINee – an apple a day – oneshot
Title: an apple a day

Summary: Suddenly Kibum realizes he has a stalker. (“Hi Kibum! You know how they say skin is the largest organ? Not in my case.”)
Comments: Uhm. First time writing Onkey. Idk where this came from. I had so much fun though! \o/
“Hey!”
The sudden call makes Kibum swirl around and it isn’t entirely unexpected when he finds himself face to face with Lee Jinki, one of the country’s most well known and appreciated physicians. Jinki is beaming at him, his eyes crescent shapes that make him look almost dorky. “Hey Kibum, you forgot your umbrella!”
Kibum? No matter how effectively he rakes through his brain, Kibum can’t remember ever saying it’s alright for the doctor to call him by his first name. He lets it slip, though, and only arches an eyebrow. “Oh. Thank you.” He doesn’t really recall bringing one but well, it was raining earlier.
Now this would be the point when he gets his umbrella, says thank you and leaves. The only problem is that there is no umbrella. Jinki only stands there, still smiling, and Kibum clears his throat. “Um. Where is it?”
Jinki looks surprised. At the same time he seems immensely pleased that Kibum is talking to him. “Where is what?” he asks.
“The umbrella?” Kibum prompts.
“Oh,” Jinki says. He is slightly confused. “Oh, yes!” Something lightens in his eyes. “There is no umbrella.”
Now this is confusing. “No umbrella?”
“No. Not really,” Jinki says and he is beaming again. “I just wanted an excuse to talk to you, Kibum.”
Vaguely, Kibum wonders if this is how it feels being stalked. It’s strangely flattering, but he shakes the thought off. “You are,” he says. “Talking to me. Now what?”
Jinki deflates visibly. He hesitates. Then the smile is back full-on. “Did it hurt?”
“Did what hurt?” Kibum thinks back to his appointment. “When you took my blood pressure? No, not really. But I’d hope you know these things, Jinki. You’re the doctor here.” He can’t exactly keep the hint of sarcasm out of his voice.
“No, no,” Jinki shakes his head and his hair does these little flips around his face. “Did it hurt,” he pauses for effect, “when you fell from heaven?”
Oh dear god. “I am leaving,” Kibum says and spins around on his heels. Sure he might’ve flirted with the man a little when he visited him for the obligatory check up, but it doesn’t mean he has to subject himself to such horrid pick up attempts, right?
He walks away and doesn’t look back.
The next three weeks are full of exactly that. It’s not like they see every day. Still Jinki manages to worm his way into Kibum’s life with surprising efficiency: he surprises him when he’s shopping (“Hi Kibum! You know how they say skin is the largest organ? Not in my case.”), in the cafeteria at work (“Hey Kibum, I seem to have lost my phone number, could I borrow yours?”), even in the bar his friends drag him to wind down (“Oh, Kibum. Hi! Let's get drunk and take advantage of each other. Or, I could get drunk and you could just take advantage of me. Or, you can stay here and get drunk and I can go home and take advantage of myself. Up to you.”).
Kibum holds back his amusement and embarrassment with varying degrees of success. He isn’t even really annoyed anymore. How could he? Jinki is completely harmless and in his own way even strangely endearing. Still he sends him away each time, one way or another.
Kibum can’t quite decide if Jinki is the best or the worst stalker in history.
(His personal favourite is “You know, Kibum, I'm funny, financially stable, and have a very interesting DNA structure.”)
“Hey! Kibum!”
It’s more than familiar by now. With a huge sigh, Kibum stops and slowly turns around. He comes face to face with – who else – Jinki. He doesn’t even say anything but waits for the pick up line that is bound to follow.
“Here,” Jinki smiles, reaching out for Kibum’s hand. He places something round in Kibum’s palm, cool in contrast with his warm touch as he bends Kibum’s fingers around it. “An apple a day–”
“–keeps the doctor away,” Kibum fills in automatically, startled as he looks up. Jinki’s mouth is smiling but his eyes aren’t, they are big and clear, sincerely apologetic.
Kibum has expected this. It’s not like he can have his personal stalker forever. Despite that, he feels vaguely disappointed. On top of that, he is surprised by the heavy feeling in his gut when he sees the sadness emitting from Jinki.
Something clicks in Kibum’s mind. “How about we forget the apples,” he suggests and pulls his hand back. The next second he pitches the apple as hard as he can, watching it smash against a brick wall with great satisfaction. Jinki looks startled and wide-eyed, but Kibum ignores that in favour of lacing their fingers together. “Buy me dinner instead.”
The genuine smile is back and this time it lights up Jinki’s whole face. He hums happily to himself as he squeezes Kibum’s hand in his, damn near dancing down the street.
