Summary: Even when apart, their lives are irreversibly entwined. Kyuhyun suspects he will never get a moment of peace as long as Zhou Mi still has his phone intact.
Comments: Uhhmm. Short and pointless but cute? ;~;
”You do realize this is going to be a kind of a long distance relationship?” Zhou Mi points out when he’s packing his bags to leave for China, once again. The SJM promotions have ended, as long as they were, the date for the main group’s fifth album drawing near. There would be tons of work to do before that still, but it would not include Zhou Mi. While it would very much include Kyuhyun.
“Good.” Kyuhyun huffs without even raising his gaze from his laptop screen. “Distance will do good.” He says it so off-handedly Zhou Mi isn’t certain if he’s paying any attention at all. Wouldn’t be the first time.
With a small sigh Zhou Mi glances at the mountain of his half-packed bags, before he decides he has the whole night to finish that and turns to the younger man instead. “So you’ll have more time for your precious Starcraft?” He asks teasingly, approaching the desk to lean his hip against it once he’s close enough.
Kyuhyun nods absent-mindedly, his eyes never leaving the screen. Zhou Mi could’ve sworn he hesitated for a second though, and that his hands have slowed down on the keyboard-mouse combo. “Well and I don’t need to look at your face until I’m fed up with it.” He tries but it doesn’t really have any force behind it.
“I wouldn’t count on that!” Zhou Mi announces cheerily. They both know Zhou Mi will bombard Kyuhyun with ridiculous selcas and that Kyuhyun will secretly save each and every one of them. “Now, shut that thing down and come get some lunch with me.”
“You’re paying?” Kyuhyun arches an eyebrow.
Zhou Mi nods. “I’m paying.”
It’s only the second night after Zhou Mi’s flight to China and Kyuhyun already knows he won’t be able to sleep properly without him. It’s not like they sleep in the same bed constantly anyway, not necessarily, but the option has always been there and he doesn’t like the lack of it. At least there are – as predicted – the millions of silly photos he receives on his phone roughly every seventh minute. Those help a bit.
As do the long phone calls. Even if they’re mostly Zhou Mi talking, chattering on and on about some latest fashion items he has found or about a certain fluffy dog or about the new music video teaser Zhou Mi has just seen. Kyuhyun could’ve sworn Zhou Mi is as bad as any of their fangirls.
“Oh and I forgot!” Zhou Mi hurriedly cuts his explanation about something completely different to go back to the previous topic. “Tell Heechul I love his hair! He looks just as badass as he wants to. I bet he tried to give off the aura of a mob boss with that.”
Kyuhyun, who has started taking notes halfway through the phone call to remember everything he is supposed to tell the other members, frowns slightly. “Are you looping the teaser again?” He could swear he hears the familiar beat in the background.
“Yes,” Zhou Mi admits easily, going on without even an inhale. “Hyukjae's new hairdo is growing on me too. The platinum blond looks dashing! I wonder if I should try something new too, but blond might be a little too much.”
This is beginning to frustrate Kyuhyun a little. Zhou Mi has managed to mention something about every other person in the video except for the most important one: Kyuhyun himself. He has waited patiently but his patience has its limits. “And..?”
“And?” Zhou Mi sounds a little baffled.
“And am I so invisible you didn’t even see me in the video?” Kyuhyun snaps, and while he wanted it to sound sarcastic it comes out as frustratingly teenaged. Or like he is PMSing. Well shit.
“Are you jealous..?” Zhou Mi drawls and somehow he sounds a bit too happy about that fact.
“No.”
“Well then I don’t need to tell you how you look absolutely edible, even if they have a tendency to dress you in weird kind of pants lately. Would it hurt to show off your fleshy behind a little?” Zhou Mi launches off genuinely, obviously speaking from the bottom of his heart.
Kyuhyun snorts a little, but he can’t hold back the smile that creeps on his lips. Especially when Zhou Mi goes on. “I took screencaps! Like you taught me.” That process was something neither of them would forget very soon, painstaking and frustrating. “And I stalked the internet for some more. It’s a goldmine.”
Like said: the biggest fangirl.
Kyuhyun gets used to the frequent phone calls up to the point that he can’t go to bed unless he at least gets a short message from the other man. Sometimes Zhou Mi texts him in Chinese, sometimes he sends a weird photograph of something that could either be a dog’s ass or a new purse he bought, sometimes he calls and talks until one of them falls asleep and drools in the receiver (usually Kyuhyun).
Sometimes, Zhou Mi takes him completely by surprise. The best example is the time he calls Kyuhyun when he is getting ready for a photoshoot and begins with the words “Maybe we should try phone sex?”
Kyuhyun sputters. “Y-you! I’m sitting here getting a ton of make up on to even out my skin and you call me to say something like that?” He tries to hush his voice a little, knowing that the stylists are as curious as they are nice, and incredible gossipmongers. “We should talk about this sometime later. Like… preferably in ten years from now.”
“Oh.” Zhou Mi falls silent for a second before he goes on as cheerily as he began the whole call. “I’ll call you later in the evening! Send me copies of your photos so I don’t need to dig them out the internet.”
Then he sends an obnoxiously loud kiss through the phone and Kyuhyun tries to snap it shut as fast as he can. He is pretty certain this isn’t the end of it.
As soon as the photos are out Kyuhyun attaches one of them to an email that reads here’s your porn and sends it off. He is pretty happy about the result and he deliberately picked the photo he deemed the hottest to show the other man. If he would show them one by one, the impact should be bigger, right?
He doesn’t really know what he wants, but he does expect something along the lines of Zhou Mi calling him to squeal about how hot he’s turned. Which, well, doesn’t exactly happen. Instead Zhou Mi calls him and goes past all forms of greeting to exclaim “You look like Ji-ah Lee!”
"What?" Kyuhyun can't believe what he's hearing. Maybe he got it all wrong.
Zhou Mi sighs exasperatedly, and Kyuhyun can practically see him flailing through the phone. " Ji-ah Lee! From Siwon's drama!" He insists as there is no reaction at all.
Kyuhyun is too busy trying to figure out what the hell is going on. "...the romantic comedy?" He somehow manages after a moment, hoping he doesn’t sound as dumb as he feels.
"No no, not that one! From Athena! You watched it right?” Zhou Mi explains further and when there’s again no reaction he sighs for good measure. “...you didn't? How could you not! It's Siwon’s drama. Why do they call you dramakyu again? You didn't even bother watching Siwon’s drama yet!?"
Kyuhyun thinks it's entirely unfair they're not focusing on the really essential part here. Which is that he is smoking hot. Instead he gets a half an hour lecture and half an hour plot description about the drama in question. The next night he spends sitting in front of his computer watching the drama.
In the morning his eyes are red and there are dark circles underneath them. He also confuses Siwon greatly when he snaps that it’s all his fault.
At least the new music video brings the desired effect. This time, when Zhou Mi calls he only talks about Kyuhyun, barely mentioning the actual song in passing. Kyuhyun is quite satisfied. Even smug. Not that he’d admit that to anyone. He suspects that Zhou Mi knows it anyway.
Eventually they do try phone sex, but it turns out to be a disaster. Two minutes of awkward silence and Zhou Mi tries to get things moving, only to listen to Kyuhyun laughing at the other end of the line for the next five.
“I can’t help it!” Kyuhyun admits, unable to hold back his chuckles. “When you say cock it sounds so ridiculous.”
“You never laughed at my pronunciation when I had yours right in my palm,” Zhou Mi points out and Kyuhyun sputters, unable to decide whether to laugh or be completely embarrassed. He decides to go for the former when Zhou Mi goes on.
“Maybe we should try a webcam.”

It’s kind of disjointed and it’s short but yeah. I’m working on a bigger project right now and it will take me aeons to finish, so I figured some short ficlets in between would be in order, yes?
I also still hate coming up with titles and summaries. Pftth. This was almost called “puhelinlangat laulaa” or “I FUCKING HATE TITLES” so even if the current one sucks, deal with it. It took me twice as long to name this as it took me to write this D:
