Comments: A short drabble to hopefully brighten your Monday :D I’ve spent the whole day studying for my organometallic chemistry exam so I at least urgently need a break *laughs* And what would be a better break than a little D/T? :)

Better at Rainbows

Die hated fighting. He wasn't good at it and he wanted everyone around him to like him and to get along, not fight. Even more he hated fighting with Toshiya. The most he hated fighting with Toshiya for no apparent reason.

It had been silly, really. They both knew that. It had all started when Die had wanted to have a smoke outside, asking Toshiya to accompany him since it had just been raining and he hoped they might spot a rainbow outside. Since against common beliefs, inside Die lived a huge softie who loved all these small romantic things. Even if he hadn't admitted it to nearly anyone. Toshiya had opted out though, saying he'd rather watch TV and stretch his legs on the couch.

It had escalated from that and in the end, they had been yelling at each other, pointing fingers and reminding one another from stupid annoying little habits they had. It had ended up in slamming doors and yelling curses, and only hours later they had reluctantly talked to each other again. They made up, but there still seemed to be a thin layer of ice between them and they slept in the far edges of the bed they shared, not touching each other.

Things were good, they had made up. But things weren't normal yet.

Somehow Die was disappointed to come back home to an empty, cold apartment. He had known it would be like that, after all they had both known for weeks that Toshiya was doing this interview today and that he would be back home somewhere in the middle of the night. Still... somehow Die had thought that after the argument, after just making up, the other man would've been there for him to make things go back to normal. Go back to easy.

He was still sulking when he threw his coat on the armchair, stalking into the kitchen to get something to drink. There, attached on the fridge with a big heart-shaped magnet they had gotten as a present from the smugly grinning Kyo, was a small note and already seeing it made Die's heart jump.

There was a quick drawing scribbled on the crumpled paper, some words written underneath it. Before he even thought about it he grabbed the note, smoothing it down so he could read what was written in the messy handwriting that was so obviously Toshiya's.

I'll be better at rainbows.

The words made Die smile and he couldn't fight the sudden rush of emotion, this certain warmth filling his chest. He knew Toshiya meant it. And he knew that it didn't even matter if he would get better at rainbows. Die would love him anyway. Just as he was. Yet knowing he was willing to change for him, willing to work on himself, it mattered a lot to Die.

Grabbing a pen from the table Die smoothed down the paper even more, filling one of the edges with as tiny writing as he could manage. There wasn't enough room for more than a couple of words anyway.

Hours later Toshiya came home to a dark apartment, the only light coming from the kitchen as the door had been left ajar. Curiously he stepped inside, and when he saw the note right where he had left it his heart sank. Maybe Die hadn't seen it. Maybe Die wasn't even home. Or maybe Die was still mad at him. Instinctively he reached for the paper though and just when he was about to squeeze it into his palm and throw it away, he noticed the small writing that wasn't there originally.

As he read it, his lips instantly curved up into a genuine smile. Sticking the note into his pocket he left the kitchen, heading straight to the bedroom without taking the shower he had planned on. He could take one in the morning. Now he had better things to do.

What did Die add to the note?

I know, moron. Come to bed.
