[livejournal.com profile] fonulyn: I have to give some credit to [livejournal.com profile] seinen_no for this since when we were writing our never-to-be-finished D/T story, she made Toshiya share a story of himself running away from home to go to a concert in a club when he was fifteen. Somehow, the thought got stuck in my head and I couldn’t get rid of it! And then, we lost the internet connection for an hour, I was bored and in desperate need for some D/T, and this was born XD My attempt to give myself some much needed D/T *laughs* I hope you enjoy reading it ;)

And feel free to add our journal if you like the stories!
Plus, the archive.

The sense of freedom was intoxicating as Toshiya inhaled the muggy, smoky air in the bar, filling his lungs with everything from the scent of sweat to the tobacco smoke. This was how it smelled like! Freedom! He was out, clubbing, hitting a bar – okay he had used his big brother to sneak in and he had only gotten something to drink with his help too – and checking out everyone around himself. This was exciting, and that was an understatement of the century!

After having that one beer his brother had gotten him, Toshiya had been the king of the dance floor, giving such a show that he had been turning heads. And that in a good way, since although he was a skinny, even scrawny teenager he could move his body and he knew how to look good beyond his fifteen years. He had even gotten some admiring glances and winks from both the girls and guys around him, and that was something that boosted his ego to the point he felt like he might just about explode.

That was when he set his eyes on a pretty redheaded figure, leaning against the wall a bit to the side. Toshiya had known for longer that he was more attracted to the male part of the population, never really interested in big boobs and wide hips, but this young man was like a punch in the gut for him. Already before he realized he was staring at the porcelain skin and flaming red hair, Toshiya was approaching the stunning creature to get a closer look. And, maybe, to talk to him too. He had never picked up anyone from a bar but it couldn’t be that hard, could it? He had been on a date! That had to count for something.

“Hi,” Toshiya started out casually, stepping closer to the redhead. He was so glad that there was no one else around and that it was just the two of them. His heart was already beating like a drum, his palms sweaty and his knees turning to jelly from pure nervousness. “Do you come here often?” Oh god there it was, the worst pick-up line in the history of bad pick-up lines. Instantly he stuttered, a blush on his cheeks and twitching his fingers nervously. “I mean, I haven’t seen you here before, and a sight like you is something I certainly wouldn’t have missed bef – ”

”How old are you, kid?” The redhead smiled as he measured Toshiya’s appearance thoroughly, apparently trying to decide if his new acquaintance was old enough to take interest in him at all. “Are you even allowed to drink yet?” He had obviously seen the way Toshiya had had to beg his big brother to buy him a drink earlier. Or then he was way more bright than Toshiya was willing to give him credit for right now.

”I’m not a kid!” Toshiya knew that by doing this, speaking through clenched teeth and glaring sulkily at his counterpart, not to mention having the defiant tone in his voice, he looked exactly like the big kid he was denying he was. “Look, I’m here, ain’t I? And it’s a club for eighteen plus people.” He tried his best, and to him it sounded pretty damn believable, too. He was already congratulating himself for that, before his hopes came crashing down.

“Yeah, you’re here, but you’re definitely not eighteen.” Toshiya knew the stranger wasn’t much older than he was, maybe barely eighteen himself, but somehow seemed much more experienced, comfortable in the place like it was his home. “You’re cute, though.”

That was when it happened. The redhead smiled, this honest and wide smile with sparkling eyes, and Toshiya could feel his knees turn into jelly. At the same time his heart protested loudly in his chest and tried to break his ribcage, his breath hitching in his throat and… okay okay, he was having a major crush already. “The name is Die,” the redhead went on and offered his hand out to Toshiya for a handshake. “And I’d buy you a drink but I think that beer was enough for you.”

That now made Toshiya blush lightly and he had to fight hard not to again let the sulky pout appear on his face. Damnit, he had to still work on being more mature and casual. He was far from being good at that yet. “I can handle another one,” he pointed out, giving his best shot at the casual grin he threw at Die. “But I wanted to be the one to offer you a drink. You are just beaut – ”

He didn’t get any further than that before he was cut off. “Hey, kid,” there was something warning in the redhead’s eyes as he looked seriously at Toshiya, fixing his gaze with his own, “don’t. I like you, and I don’t want to push you into something we’d both regret. And most important,” this time the serious look got a bit milder, a hint of a smile dancing on those full lips, “you shouldn’t do anything you would regret.”

Toshiya didn’t know what to say. This went way beyond his experiences, hell, he really had never picked anyone up from a bar. He was still struggling with his words when Die finished his drink and turned around, vanishing into the crowd of people around them. Toshiya was left standing there alone, watching after that retreating back and clenching his fists helplessly.

Now that hadn’t been the most successful attempt in picking up a guy from a bar.

Toshiya ran his fingers through the dark brown strands of hair that were stubbornly trying to fall on his face. It had been a long time. He eyed the bright neon sign outside the club, lifting his sunglasses off his nose to inspect it for longer. He hadn’t been here in nearly twenty years and still he remembered it like it had been yesterday. Maybe that happened with the incidents that had a big impact on your life, he didn’t know, but he did remember everything from this place.

It had been a lot of work, tracking down a person he knew nothing of, nothing except for his first name and even that was a nickname. Thankfully, Toshiya had good connections and his social network was wide enough to figure out just about anyone’s real identity. It had still taken long, especially since he was searching for a person from all those years ago, a person he had only met once.

Die.

Merely by a lucky accident he had stumbled across an old Polaroid that his friend had taken when they had all sneaked away from home, searching for the biggest adventure of their fifteen-year-old lives. It had been a whole stack of Polaroids to be exact, but there had been one that had caught his interest instantly. A picture of a redheaded young man, smiling so brightly it was a wonder it didn’t blind everyone nearby, and holding a raised drink in his hand as if proposing a toast.

It was exactly the smile that had made Toshiya’s heart skip a beat, had turned him to a stuttering mass of nervousness, adoration and a whole bunch of other nameless feelings. Now he knew better, had been through a lot during these years, and thinking back to how naïve he had been back then almost made him shudder unpleasantly. For some reason, he had instantly wanted to meet that boy – now a man – again. Hence his inquiries, his desperate search for the boy in the faded photograph.

He had found out that the boy, Die, still came here to this club every once in a while when he was in town. When he was visiting his family and friends. And, because Toshiya’s friends were awesome, he had also heard of the most recent visit as soon as it happened. He had no idea why Die would come back to the same club, alone to top it all. He never took anyone with him, at least that Toshiya had heard, but instead spent the evening alone or by picking up company from the bar.

Toshiya didn’t dwell on that for long, though, he didn’t care why Die was there, it was enough that he was. The instant he stepped inside, the music blasting fully from every single direction, he tried to find that one face in the crowd. The red hair was gone, but it was still easy to spot him. He was laughing, holding up a drink in a similar manner than in the picture, while listening to someone next to him. The chocolate brown hair looked incredibly soft and instantly Toshiya had an urge to run his fingers through it to test if it really was as soft as it seemed. He suppressed that, instead just stepping closer.

“Hi, Die. Remember me?” The second those words left Toshiya’s lips he cursed himself for starting the conversation with such a stupid question, but he didn’t let his hesitation show. Instead, he dug out the most casual, confident look he had to offer and leaned against the wall right next to him, turning sideways to the other man. Maybe this was a sexy and confident enough of a pose? Was that recognition he saw flashing in those eyes? He could’ve sworn it was, but he didn’t want to jump into conclusions so he offered an introduction with a small, seductive smile. “Toshiya. The scrawny fifteen-year-old kid who tried to hit on you about twenty years ago. Right here. Didn’t succeed.”

The words made Die laugh and he seemed to be genuinely amused by that, at least judging by the bright sparkle in his eyes. “I remember.” He nodded a little, grinning merrily as he tilted his head and looked straight at the younger man. “Although I don’t know if ‘scrawny’ would’ve been the first word I’d use in describing you. Not even back then. How about something like ‘shy’, ‘enthusiastic’ and ‘determined’?”

That was a pretty good combination, Toshiya had to admit, and he nodded slightly to acknowledge that although at the same time he was laughing. “You’re right. And you know what? I might not be as shy anymore, but I’m definitely as enthusiastic and determined as back then.” His smile was open as he looked straight back at the other man. Die was as tall as he was, had broad and wide shoulders and although he was thin, he was built angular and clearly masculine. Perfect, Toshiya thought inwardly, I already had an amazing taste in men when I was fifteen.

“Somehow I don’t doubt that,” Die admitted chuckling as he reached to set down his drink on a nearby table, before straightening so they were standing face-to-face once again. “Determined enough to find me after all these years, eh? Or is this just a coincidence?” There was something in Die’s eyes that showed that he wouldn’t believe a word if Toshiya tried to claim it was an accident, pure unplanned coincidence. So Toshiya didn’t even try to explain it. He only flashed a bright grin, stepping closer until their chests were nearly touching.

“Hey, Die,” Toshiya quite enjoyed the fact that even with the similar heights, he was the one with muscular arms and somehow the strong build gave him the feeling of having an upper hand. “Remember, when we last met, you told me not to do anything I’d regret.” He moved in, placing his palm on the wall right next to the other man’s head and forced Die to back off until he was practically leaning against the wall. “But I did. I let the perfect opportunity slip away and I’ve regretted it ever since.”

There was a new tone in Toshiya’s voice, something husky, low and intense, and it clearly affected Die as well. A small shiver ran down Die’s spine, and he was grateful for having the wall behind himself since otherwise his knees might’ve just given in at that. Especially when that tone of voice was combined with that intense look in Toshiya’s eyes, in the way he was slowly leaning forward, closer…

The next second, an electric jolt shot through them both as their lips met in a soft touch. It was barely even a real contact, so gentle that they had to focus to know it was there, focus on their hot breaths that were mixing between them. Then, Die lifted his chin a little, took the last step in making the connection more real. It was a tentative kiss for the first part, but soon evolved into something deeper, more passionate.

By the time they tore apart they were breathing heavily, their cheeks flushed and their whole world spinning pleasantly. Somehow Die had managed to grab Toshiya’s shirt in his fists, holding on to him knuckles white, while Toshiya had leaned closer in turn and was practically pressing him against the wall by now. For a moment, nothing passed between them, nothing but silence. As much as one could call it silence in the loud club, electronic dance music echoing in the air in a loud beat.

Finally, a grin ghosted over Die’s lips. That very same grin that had turned Toshiya’s knees to jelly nearly twenty years ago. Gods, it was a lifetime ago. And still, it felt like it had been yesterday.

“Alright, big boy,” amusement was dancing in Die’s tone as he spoke up, tugging on the younger man’s collar a little bit, “I can see you’ve grown a lot. How about you show me what else you’ve learned?”

It was an awful pick up line. But it worked. God, it worked.

This time Toshiya made sure he wasn’t left behind, and he swore to himself that he would make it good. He would give it his best shot and then… then he would have to see where that would take him.

At least he had a good feeling about this.

People ARE stupid when they're 15, so the theme works.

I find the idea of baby Toshiya hilarious. He's still so dorky now, can you just imagine him then?
