Summary: A nice, summery day at the pool is definitely something Die would never pass intentionally. Especially when he has something as gorgeous as Toshiya to stare at, shamelessly. But of course Toshiya has to go and ruin Die’s plans in his own very charming way.

A Little Bit of Paradise
A nice, summery day at the pool was definitely something Die would never pass intentionally. You know the saying, working hard always needs some serious relaxing too, and after three weeks of intense touring without a single free day in between, he was so ready for these few free days. He had no idea where they even were, he had lost count somewhere halfway through the tour and he thought he was lucky to know the continent they were on. Though, this time, he figured he should note down the name of the place and the hotel, seeing that they were actually staying in a four-star hotel instead of those shabby motels from earlier.
He had no idea how they had earned that, maybe it had been the fit Kyo had thrown after the motel with the rat problem, or maybe it had been Kaoru bitching about the cockroaches on his bed. Whatever it was, he was definitely enjoying the hotel now, the large pool on the hotel yard, the bar only a few steps away. This was life! There wasn’t even much threat of being recognized and bugged here, seeing that they were surrounded by rich tourists, who had hardly ever heard of the band to begin with. Here, they were just a casual bunch of average Japanese tourists. Okay, more gorgeous than average, but that wasn’t too suspicious.
With relish, Die stretched his long legs as he leaned back in his chair, sunglasses propped up on his face to shield his eyes from the most intense sun. Oh he could definitely get used to this. Although he did like swimming too, his main interest right now was worshipping the sun and having yet another one of those exotic drinks in his hand. Why get into the cold, probably dirty, water while he could enjoy the rays of the sun warming his skin and lazily sip on that colourful drink.
Besides, the sight wasn’t bad either. Not bad at all.
Die only needed to tilt his head and look to the other end of the pool to admire that delicious set of long arms and broad shoulders. Arms that had been wrapped around him just hours earlier, his chest pressed against that more muscular one. Oh yes, he definitely liked the sight, and he would’ve been willing to spend hours just staring at that. Maybe that was the main reason why he hadn’t gotten into the pool himself, but rather stayed on the side and just watched with great interest.
One could’ve thought that Toshiya would be fed up with the constant exercises he had to do for his back, but no, he still took pleasure in it, enjoyed it. It was like he was born to do this, glide through the masses of water, using his long arms to gain more speed, splashes of water around him. It made Die shiver to think of how it felt to run his fingers over the muscles hidden beneath the smooth skin on Toshiya’s back. How it felt to slide his hands lower, to his waist, tease the sensitive spot on his hipbone and…
…enough with the fantasies already. Die shook his head firmly, trying to get rid of that image in his mind before his body would get false ideas and little-Die would get too happy about it. Now wasn’t the time, certainly not. He would just go on enjoying his drink and the sun, breathe in deep, calm down, forget about that godly body in the pool that felt so good against his own, all slick from sweat and hot muscles and… shit. There it goes again. To his luck, he was shaken from his daydreams as an all too familiar voice called out for him.
“Hey Die! C’mere.”
Arching a suspicious eyebrow, Die turned his head to look straight at his friend. Toshiya had come closer, his arms crossed and propped on the edge of the pool as he was grinning straight at the guitarist, a mischievous sparkle in his eyes. That sparkle should’ve been warning enough, but somehow Die managed to ignore the little bells going off in his head as he stood up and approached the younger man. Toshiya had this certain small grin dancing on his lips, just the edges of his mouth curved upwards a little bit and oh god was it hard for Die to hold back from kissing him right then and there.
As soon as he was close enough he crouched down, bringing him if not quite on eye-level with the younger man then at least closer to that. “Tired of swimming already?” He asked with a grin, resting his arms on his knees as he leaned a bit closer.
That proved to be a fatal mistake.
Suddenly Toshiya grabbed his arm, yanking him down towards himself. Die could barely cry out in surprise before he was slammed into the water as well, his cargo-shorts and sleeveless shirt soaking wet in an instant. There was water in his eyes, water in his ears, water in his airways and for a split second he was almost panicking as his feet didn’t meet the bottom of the pool and he was just kicking the water hastily. The next second he re-surfaced though, spitting water, coughing and cursing like an old sailor as he instinctively grabbed Toshiya’s shoulders for support.
It took him a moment to blink his eyes clear, to calm down his breathing and appear more casual again. When he looked up, his whole world stopped turning for a second. He looked deep into Toshiya’s eyes, that mischievous glint still there and accompanied by something else, something he couldn’t quite put his finger on. For a split second it felt as if they were about to kiss. They never did. The kiss was lingering in the air, a vague memory of something that might’ve happened. They knew they were being obvious enough already without that final seal to crumble their carefully built image.
A heartbeat later, Die broke the moment. A grin ghosted over his lips as he placed his palms on Toshiya’s head, suddenly pushing him under the water’s surface. It was almost too easy and a part of him knew that Toshiya let him do that, while another part was just revelling in his victory, a merry chuckle spilling from his lips. When Toshiya emerged again he was laughing, his eyes so tiny that it was hard to even see the sparkle. But Die knew it was there. The gigglesnorts were so contagious that they made Die want to laugh too.
Yet again, it was Die who broke the moment before they could do something stupid. With a couple of long strokes he was already at the ladder, climbing up from the pool. Thankfully his hair had grown pretty long already and it was almost too easy to hide a grin, allowing those wet strands to fall forward and cover his expression partly.
“Hey, Die!” Toshiya’s voice was close behind him, the younger man getting up from the pool moments after. At first Die only wanted to give him a short glance but when he turned his head he got stuck staring, whether he wanted it or not. Toshiya’s strong, lithe form, dripping wet, water beading on his smooth, tanned skin and muscles flexing underneath. Oh god. Die’s mouth was watering from the mere sight of that and if they had been alone he was certain he would’ve just jumped the younger man right then and there. Mercilessly.
“Let’s change on some dry clothes, eh?” Toshiya was smiling as he stepped closer, his fingertips gracing Die’s waist shortly, the touch lingering there a second longer than necessary. Even through his wet pants Die could feel that touch burning, the small hairs on his arms rising up. “I’ll buy you one of those colourful drinks with a little umbrella.”
That now made Die smile. The younger man surely knew how to bribe him.

I love how you make their feelings known, but now in an obvious way. It's so subtle and genius. Though I wouldn't mind walking out on the two making out in the pool. Though Kao might not think the same. Or Kyo.. I don't think Shinya would mind. Rather he'd turn on his heels and walk/run away xD

I really enjoyed reading it. Like it was said, it gives a very summary feeling and I just really enjoy the subtleness in their action, how they are always dancing on the edge between showing off friendship while they (of course) are in love.

I liked the carefree atmosphere, Die's POV and those thoughts the sight of the almost naked Toshiya's wet body evoked in him were really amusing!
The description of this temporary platonic relationship between them, how their lingering touches, those glances between them and their almost-kiss already carry the promise of something else was so beautiful.
I wonder whether their mutual attraction will be ever that strong to force them to take the last step or not...
