Summary: Kaoru had always mocked Die – lovingly of course – for his weird habit of sending himself postcards wherever they travelled. Yet now he has to admit that he actually likes the whole concept, a lot.

fonulyn: This was inspired by the lovely prompt here. I don’t really know what to say about it, it’s more one of these ‘mood-drabbles’ than an actual fic. Yet, I figured it’d deserve its own entry :) I have more than a dozen drabble-ish ficlets (yay for a new term XD but it’s pretty descriptive) done so I figured I could begin posting them. Lemme know what you think! :)
And feel free to add our journal if you like the stories!
Plus, the archive.
Postcards
Softly Kaoru’s feet were padding on the floor as he walked across the living room. He had just returned home after a long meeting that had only required his presence, and he hoped that the younger man was already home by now. Knowing Die, he would already be asleep at this hour, only to then wake up a bit later to move to the living room so he could watch the late movie. He was a bad sleeper, only slept a couple of hours at a time, and Kaoru knew his usual rhythm by heart. Heading to the bedroom, he already pictured the younger man curled on the mattress, and wondered if he was sleeping soundly or again having nightmares.
Something made him stop in the doorway though, as he sensed something different in the atmosphere. Die definitely wasn’t sleeping. Almost carefully, he placed his hand on the door, pushing it open just enough so he could look inside, see the other man. Instantly a smile spread on his lips as he noticed what Die was doing; attaching postcards on the wall above the bedhead. Die was on his knees, reaching as far up as he can in his position, only to carefully place a card in the upper right corner of his little collage. Afterwards he leaned back, the concentrated frown replaced by a content smile as he admired his work.
It only took a moment and he reached up again, this time attaching another postcard right beside the previous one, a little higher maybe, to go on with his artistic view. That was the point when Kaoru couldn’t hold back any longer, he wanted to be a part of the moment, of the scene presented to him. For the first second he felt almost like an intruder, like he was breaking the magic of the moment, but it only took a smile from Die when he noticed him, and the feeling was long gone.
Kaoru stepped close, leaning in to plant a soft kiss on the younger man’s cheek, and just plopped down to sit beside him on the edge of the bed. “You’re doing some decorations?” It was more a statement than a question though, the smile on Kaoru’s lips showing clearly that he didn’t mind at all. Automatically he reached out, brushing away a strand of hair from Die’s face. When his hand dropped down again, he like naturally allowed his fingertips to run along the other guitarist’s arm, giving his elbow the tiniest of squeezes.
“Yeah,” Die nodded instantly, not even trying to deny it, and willingly he went on with his explanation already before the other man asked anything. “Every time we’ve been somewhere, I’ve sent us a card.” That was the part Kaoru already knew, he had several times mocked the younger man for his habit of sending himself cards and saving them like they were the most precious thing on earth. “I thought,” the younger man went on, something almost shy in his smile, “that I’ll now begin putting them on the wall. Like a picture story of us, of where we’ve been. And we can always look at it and remember.”
The explanation made Kaoru smile and he leaned in, resting his head on the other man’s shoulder while sneaking one arm around his waist. “What about when the wall is full?” He asked lowly, his voice carrying all the emotions, the unspoken promises that he never voiced. That already was his promise to the other guitarist, promise to stick to him until their wall would be filled, maybe expanded on the other walls of the bedroom as well.
“Then,” Die smiled and turned his head just enough to look at Kaoru. “We will be old.” They both settled for that, as if it would explain everything.

I liked this. Much. I liked every word, every feeling between the lines, even though they were simple (nevertheless beautiful) and your fic short. But that really doesn't matter.
This was touching. The whole idea of the postcards and the meaning was touching.

THIS.
Girl, you made my day and I wanna thank you. Because sometimes just a few words are enough to brighten my day.

I don't really even know what to say. Your comment had me smiling like an idiot, damn, even my hands are shaking a bit XD I'm happy that you liked it, and that the mood came across properly. I seriously live off of moods, but it's not always that easy to get a certain moment the mood it needs. So your words are like nectar to me ;)
Thank you, so much. I really am glad that you liked it, and that it even brightened your day! Hearing that lifted my mood considerably as well.
Also, your icon so makes me smile ;D

And this line is lovely too "Like a picture story of us, of where we’ve been." I like to think that they may be rock stars that travel the world but yet, they still cherish simple, yet important realities like that they trudge this path together. Even if it's just fan fiction, it makes me all warm inside.
It's nice to wake up to a boring Sunday with this!

I know what you mean :) That's why I love it when they make blog entries or when they give these certain kind of answers in interviews, that show they still are excited to travel, they still know to cherish the little things. It always makes me happy. And to think of them making the journey together (even if it indeed is only fiction) is even better ;)
Thank you so much for your comment! I'm so glad you liked it :) hehe, although it still is Saturday evening around here XD

All I know is that just that glimpse of Die with Kaoru made me a little bit happier. ^___^ There's a lot of odd possessiveness in me, also and expecially when it comes to those two, so that bit of fictive info is enough for me to feel all content. :D
Thanks for that.

And the last sentence is the best. I can so see Die giving such a simple, logical answer to a dumb question like Kao's XD
Thanks hun, your ficlets always make me smile^^

I do like the habit. I've sent a few cards to myself, but not that many so it's not really a habit for me (yet XD).
Die is simply clever ;) In his own way. And they match 8D
Thank YOU ♥
