Title: Spring; Chapter 5: Settled
Author:
seinen_no and
fonulyn
Rating: PG [going up to NC17]
Pairing: Die and Kaoru
Disclaimer: We own no one, only our dirty imaginations.
Summary: Kaoru is the most popular guy at the whole school, the student council and a straight A student, leading a life that most people consider perfect and flawless. Die is a happy-go-lucky, lazy average student who more likes to concentrate on enjoying life rather than giving all of his time for studying. When the latter is about to fail physics amongst some other subjects, the former is hired to give him private lessons. The boys don’t exactly like each other to begin with though…
Comments:
seinen_no: Ahoi girls. Gods, I'm a bit erratic these days (if that's even the right word). I can't focus on one thing and I'm so bouncy (due to the Diru-dates). Am nervous too and ask myself how this shall ever work out. But anyhow, there's the new chapter. It's a 'in between' chapter, but I hope you enjoy it anyway and have a lovely weekend you all (and now why do I ALWAYS have to write my comment before
fonulyn?) XD
fonulyn: Well I think this chapter is very nice and important for the story even, although not much happens in it. Actually it could be one of my favourite slower parts of it XD But there’s not that much action here, or progress with the plot, but I don’t think it matters that much at this point. No need to rush things, eh? So please, do enjoy :D
Oh and hun you need to write your comments before me since -I- do the hard work of posting and preparing the chap! 8D
And feel free to add our journal if you like the stories!
Plus, the archive .

Chapter 5: Settled
The next days were practically flying by. Kaoru kept his word, made room in his schedule to meet Die whenever possible. One of his coaching-students didn't need his help anymore and he denied taking another one, not caring how much he was offered. They still didn't see often at school, but when they did, they exchanged a short glance which usually resulted in one of them blushing a deep red. "If you go on like that, everybody will know within a week," Kyo remarked, jamming his elbow in Die's side after Kaoru had passed them by in the schoolyard.
"Hey, I AM allowed to look at him, am I not?" Die pursed his lips instantly, creating a pout. He was aware of how obvious he was acting but he couldn't help it, his gaze was instantly drawn towards Kaoru wherever he saw him.
"A bit louder and I will have a good laugh!" his friend pointed out. "But really, you're looking like a tomato." Tilting his head, the smaller teen examined him, grinning. "So you got past the kissing or why are you blushing?"
"No, we did not. But we got to the actual kissing part at least." The redhead chuckled, still blushing a bit, but managed to look pretty casual nevertheless.
"With tongue?" Kyo pulled Die into a recess where they were undisturbed. Theatrically, he pulled a face. "That's disgusting." Of course he was pulling off a joke to tease his friend, but that with malicious delight.
"No it's not!" Die didn't notice that before he already protested, and when he noticed his own foolishness he blushed a bit again. "And yeah, for real."
Grinning, the blonde poked out his tongue, rolling it around in his mouth while making slurping noises. "Just like that." Easily dodging Die's hit, he raised his hands. "Sorry. That was just so obvious. But it's good to hear you're making progress. You two are a bit slow, if you ask me."
"Whaddya mean 'slow'? We're just taking things as they come." The redhead hadn't been bothered at all by the fact that they had only gone for some kissing for the time being, he was totally content with where they were.
"Well, I can only say that _I_ am not acting like an old granny and take ages until getting into bed." Kyo smirked dirtily. "But well, I think it's different with you two drama-queens anyways. The uptight and the dumb. That can't work out..."
"And how many times actually have you gotten to the bed-stage anyways?" Die slapped the back of his friend's head. "And it's different! We don't wanna rush things and I think it's good."
The first comment caused the small blonde to hush and he pouted. "It's not like I never...," he mumbled defiantly, but then smiled at his friend again. "Well, I wouldn't be eager to rush too, if I were you."
"And now I'm tempted to ask 'why not?'" Die confessed with a merry chuckle.
This was the first time Die saw Kyo blush. "Didn't you think about it? I mean, one of you would have to ... you know, lie on the bottom."
"Lie..?" The redhead needed a moment but then the understanding dawned on him and his eyes widened a bit. "Like ...THE bottom..?"
"How did you imagine it'd work?" the blonde asked nodding. "I mean, did you even think of being with a guy before you fell for Kaoru?"
"No." Die shook his head instantly. "I just didn't think about it... at all. I suppose that, you know, since we're still at the kissing-stage it didn't seem important."
"You should find out if you even like the idea," his friend advised grinning. "I mean," there was clearly some teasing comment on his mind, but he spared his friend and only chuckled. "Well, but maybe it'll all come by itself and you should just enjoy the kissing part for now."
"I do like the general idea when I don't go into detail too much," the redhead confessed with a crooked grin. "I dunno. I hope it'll come by itself... Or maybe he knows more than I do."
"Well, I wouldn't count on that. I never thought he was gay before, so..." Kyo smirked. "But maybe we shouldn't discuss things here." Suddenly, he became aware of some other students passing them by, throwing curious glances at them. "Damnit, why on earth do you have to be so popular around the girls?"
"I'm just that charming," Die smirked instantly, ruffling his friend's hair. "You sound a bit jealous, midget."
Making an annoyed sound, Kyo brushed his hand away. "Dream on, beanpole! I just don't like the whole attention I get when I'm with you." He was only half serious though and at the next second had to laugh again. "But once they find out the truth, I'll be there to dry their tears and mend their broken hearts."
"So I'm actually doing you a favor too. Which means you now have to stop all complaining and be the good friend you're supposed to be." Their lesson was about to start and Die had headed inside already, winking at the other student over his shoulder. He knew that he was lucky to have a friend like Kyo, and he definitely did appreciate it. His relationship with Kaoru wasn't always a topic between them, but every once in a while, Die felt the urge to talk about it and then Kyo was there to listen.
*
Spring went by and summer came, the vacations being only two weeks away. All the students were desperately anticipating them, but only Die and Kaoru had their problems being happy. First of all, the heat was almost insufferable already and second, they soon would have less time to spend together than before, seeing that Kaoru had to take the summer school to increase his skills and be at his best for the entrance exams.
They tried to make the most of the time they were given though, spending every possible moment together. It still wasn't much, but Kaoru's schedule didn't allow any more and they just tried to enjoy what they got instead of mourning over something they couldn't have. They still hadn't gotten past the kissing part really, but that they at least had plenty.
They were sitting on Die's bed, his parents being away in the city and would only come back late at night. It was Saturday evening, the day where most students their age would be out partying. Kaoru and Die didn't though. They wanted to spend the time they had together and not with others around them, pretending to be something they weren't. Die had sneaked his arms around Kaoru's neck, kissing him passionately, when the older teen's hands started roaming down the other one's back, slipping under the hem of his shirt to touch the naked, warm skin he found there.
The touch made Die shiver and he showed his appreciation in form of a small mewl that was drowned out by the kiss. They had developed their common way with the kissing during the passed time, and it hardly ever got awkward anymore like it had in the beginning. But this was the furthest they had ever gotten basically. Like naturally, Die fell to the side so that they were both lying on his bed on their sides, facing each other.
The movement broke the contact and for a second, they were just looking at each other. Then, Kaoru leaned in, but instead of kissing the other teen's lips again, he began to nibble the side of his neck, carefully planting small kisses on the heated skin there. This was so new, made his heart beat frantically and there, right behind Die's ear, the scent was the best, the purest and that alone was enough to make his head spin.
The younger one tilted his head, a small sigh escaping his lips as he simply enjoyed the moment. He allowed his eyes to fall shut so he was able to concentrate on the feeling only, and he couldn't help but to be completely captivated by everything that happened. His hands had slid down the slightly smaller teen's back until they reached the hem of his shirt, tentatively sliding under the garment to touch the smooth skin.
Instinctively, Kaoru held his breath, the soft touch tickling his skin. He mirrored the action, his right hand pulling up Die's shirt a bit to touch him there again without stopping to shower his neck with small kisses. It again went on completely without words, both boys understanding each other without needing them. That made it all so special since they hadn't really talked about things like that but just tentatively ventured forward together.
Slowly the tentative touches grew braver and Die pushed up the older teen's shirt to gain access to more of the warm skin. Instinctively he pressed himself closer even, until they were lying as closely together as possible. It didn't go much further than that, but both of them enjoyed the touches whole-heartedly and didn't grow tired of exchanging caresses and deep kisses all evening. Even the movie they had wanted to watch together, was forgotten completely; lying on the floor before the DVD-player. Neither of them minded and if one would've asked them afterwards about it they would've told that one can watch movies anytime so it didn't matter.
From then on they started doing that even more than before, both enjoying the kisses and caresses so much that it barely took them a few moments before they managed to always cross over to some major making out. Especially since there hardly ever was enough time. They met only when Kaoru's schedule allowed it and even then sometimes Die had to be somewhere else which prevented them from meeting.
Whenever they were able to see though, they couldn't get enough of each other, of being together and although they still never talked much, they didn't seem to miss anything. Not wanting to let go, they almost always forgot time until one of them had to hurry home not to get into troubles or to get enough sleep. Things would've been so much easier if one of them could've staid with the other one, even if there was nothing more than kissing and touching going on between them, they would still enjoy just being close.
"I have to hurry," Kaoru breathed out and quickly jumped off the redhead's bed. Smoothing down his clothes, he was looking for his backpack, grabbed it and stormed to the door. "You coming?" Nodding hastily, Die followed him; always getting his boyfriend to the door not to miss a single second they could be together.
It was always like that, hurrying to the door and if no one was there to see, exchanging one last kiss before they had to part. They both knew that they couldn't see for the following three days, and so they had been trying to cling on to the moment even more than usually. Once at the door Die just took a glance over his shoulder to see if no one was watching them, but already the next second crushed his lips on his boyfriend's in a deep kiss. Gasping surprised due to the slight desperation in the contact, Kaoru's grabbed a few strands of red hair on the side of Die's neck, clinging to him and the kiss.
It was passionate, but way too short, both their lips glistening wet when they parted. "Good night." The older teen smiled moronically, gave his boyfriend a wink but then finally turned around to rush through the garden and down the street, knowing that he would have to run all the way if he didn't want his parents to find out that he had been away for so long. Smiling to himself, Die closed the door and even leaned against it, dreamily brushing over the cool wood with his fingertips.
"If I tell that mom, you're dead meat!" a well-known voice sounded behind him and when he looked up, Erika, his younger sister was grinning at him.
Die's first reaction was to blush, and for a second he didn't know what to say. Finally he gained his speech back though, trying to give his sister a glare. "You wouldn't dare! And why are you spying on me anyways!?"
"I wasn't spying. I was just getting me something to drink and had to witness my brother sucking the face of his tutor," the girl chuckled. "But don't worry, I won't tell mom if you now tell me everything about it!" There was a curious sparkle in her eyes and something malicious too as she knew that Die couldn't just deny her that now.
"You're evil, I hope you know that." The redhead pursed his lips, frowning seriously. "I bet that you never wanted anything to drink but you just have to stick your nose into other people's business."
"I didn't!" Erika drew a cross over her heart to emphasize she wasn't lying. "But Die, why are you suddenly with a guy? I mean, not that I care, but don't you think you should've told mom at least about your ambitions?"
"How could I have told her about something I didn't even know myself!" Die protested, shaking his head. "It... it just happened."
"And now you are a couple?" she asked on, greedy to know everything. "Gods, if people at your school find out... Even at our school they praise his looks and even your butt, although I still say you don't have one, only in this baseball outfit it looks like it."
"Shut up!" The redhead aimed a half hearted hit at his sister, but couldn't hold back a small chuckle nevertheless. His sister seemed to be taking it well and that was a huge relief. "And you CAN'T tell ANYONE about it, hear me!"
"You do know that it's a lot to ask from me, right? My friends would die for that information." She grinned and then hugged her brother tight. "But I think you're more important, so okay, I shut up about it. Damn, and I thought I would have a chance with him maybe..."
"Never in a million years." Die chuckled, hugging her back even as there was no way he could be angry at her anymore right now. "Just keep your dirty fingers away from him."
"You are so mean!" She pouted. "I was already showing off with the fact that my bro's tutor is Kaoru Niikura. C'mon, his reputation goes beyond your school."
"You can still show off with the fact that he's my tutor. But that's the furthest it goes!" The redhead had to laugh and they both started walking away from the door towards the second floor and their rooms. "And Erika... please, don't start barging in to my room randomly now any more than you do already."
"I promise." The girl understood the need to keep this a secret. She herself didn't have a problem with her brother going out with a guy. Her room was clustered with various yaoi-mangas anyways and maybe that had blurred her view, but she didn't mind.
"Hopefully I can trust you on that one," the redhead winked. They kept on chatting about it for a moment still before the girl promised to leave some space for her brother and his boyfriend not to make everything even more difficult for them than before.
She even kept her word, not running into the room randomly just to catch the two guys kissing or so. That fact made Die more relaxed when they were at the redhead's place, but Kaoru always feared his boyfriend's sister could walk in on them and catch them in an embarrassing moment. He never mentioned anything though, trying to block out the possibility that this could happen.
One day though, his worst nightmares became true as Erika opened the door to tell Die he still had to do the dishes. The older teen was like petrified, blushing so much that he feared his head could explode any second. Funny enough, the girl didn't react on the fact that he and her brother were lying entangled on the bed, their shirts revealing some skin as they had been pushed up a bit.
When he whined afterwards that he could never ever look her in the eyes, Die only mentioned coolly that she already knew. "She does?" Kaoru was surprised, but then Die told him the story and he calmed down again, thinking it would be okay then. Somehow it calmed things down for them since they didn't need to be afraid of getting caught at the redhead's place all the time anymore.
Often Erika warned them when there was a threat of Mrs Andou barging into the room, and she proved to actually be more helpful than annoying most of the time. Not always though since she demanded attention from both Die and Kaoru now, wanting to be included sometimes when they watched a movie or played something.
*
The last day before summer holidays, Kaoru again was at Die's place. It was mildly raining outside which cooled down the worst heat and the two boys were sitting on the bed, staring outside through the open window, watching the rain. Kaoru was leaning against his boyfriend, feeling a bit melancholy for some reason. He simply feared how things would go once he had to study while Die was free every damn day.
The redhead had noticed the slight melancholy and he had sneaked his arms around the other teen wordlessly, holding him close to himself and hoping it'd make him feel better. Absent-mindedly he was watching the rain until he suddenly remembered something. "Oh, wait a moment, I have something for you." He flashed Kaoru a smile before detaching from him and going to his closet. He dug something from the lowest shelf, came back to the bed and handed the item to his boyfriend. It was a red umbrella, one that Kaoru should recognize.
"You?" Kaoru stared at him in disbelief. "Where did you get it?" It was definitely his umbrella, had the small skull on the handle which had made him buy it although it was bright red and usually not his colour. Only then, it dawned him and he gasped. "You went back there that night? All the way through the rain?"
On the night when they had kissed for the first time and had confessed their love afterwards, the two boys had been standing in the embrace for a small eternity. Neither of them had known what else to say, how to process their emotions and at one point, they simply had to part. Kaoru had run home and had gone to bed instantly, lying awake for the whole night, just remembering the moment when their lips had met, trying to remember the other teen's scent, the look on his face and the colour of his wet hair that had stuck to his face.
Hearing that Die had taken the effort to run back all the way only to get his umbrella caused a warm feeling inside him and he clutched the item to his chest, knowing he would treasure it from then on. The truth was that the redhead had been far too bouncy that night to go back home, and he had needed some time to sort his own thoughts. So he had walked back to the place where they had met and had spotted the umbrella down under a nearby tree. He had wanted to give it back to Kaoru instantly when they had met the next time but he had forgotten about it completely.
Seeing how glad Kaoru was to receive the umbrella back made Die smile and he sat down close beside the other teen. "I thought you might want it back," he explained, the look in his eyes sincere.
Kaoru's eyes were sparkling and wordlessly, he leaned in to give him a deep kiss. "Thank you." To him, it was totally crazy that Die had gone back all the way to get his umbrella, risking a cold or, even worse, pneumonia, but at the same time it was the sweetest thing somebody had done for him. Sighing deeply, he muttered. "I wished summer was over already..."
"Don't sweat over it. We'll have fun in the summer too, trust me." The redhead took a seat close to the headboard of the bed and leaned against it, only to pull the other teenager in a close embrace. "It's not the amount of time we'll have, we just have to make sure the quality makes up for that."
"And what is quality in your eyes?" the older teen asked smirking before he nestled against Die comfortably. From this position, he could still look outside the window, feel the small breeze caressing his face.
"Basically anything as long as it involves you," Die confessed, directing his eyes outside too. It was so nice to watch the rain while being so close to the other one inside in the warmth. "Although maybe not doing those mathematical equations..."
"Don't worry. There won't be any for you during the summer. You did well and I'm not even sure if you need my help next year too. Besides," Kaoru turned to look at him. "I won't have much time for these things next year. It's gonna be tough."
"Next year you'll stop tutoring people and just concentrate on your own studies." The redhead met the gaze straight. "I still say you're burning yourself out if you keep going like this..."
"I need the money," Kaoru confessed. "I don't want to be dependant on my parents always and besides, it's not only my decision. My mom's friends keep asking her if I can teach their children. But you're right," he sighed deeply. "After summer, I will have to cut down on them anyways." Smiling, he added. "But I won't cut down on you."
"That's one reason why you'll have to cut the tutoring elsewhere," Die confessed with a chuckle, leaning in to plant a kiss randomly somewhere on the other's face. "Since I'll demand your attention."
"You do?" Kaoru grinned. "Well, then I think I have to try my best to fulfil your demands." Closing his eyes, he initiated a soft kiss. It was their own, personal way to kiss which they had developed with time, finding out how they liked it best.
Only when they parted the redhead had the chance to answer to the comment, since of course the contact couldn't have been sacrificed for it. "Oh, do that. It sounds more than promising," he winked. The truth was that he was somewhat nervous as well about what summer would bring, but he didn't want to dwell on it since he knew that'd make him melancholy.
"So what's your pay for it?" Kaoru asked chuckling. "I mean, I will cut down my job, where will you compromise?" While he was speaking, the fingers of his right hand found their way under the hem of his boyfriend's shirt, softly caressing the skin without even noticing it himself.
The touch made Die shiver and he was distracted by it for a moment, before snapping back to reality. "Where do you want me to compromise?" He knew he'd try to be there always when Kaoru had some free time, wanting to spend every possible moment together, but he didn't know what else he should do to compromise.
Initially, the older teen had said that as a joke and now felt caught. "Well, I can't think of anything right now...," he admitted honestly. It was he who had never time to meet, not Die and he certainly couldn't ask him to always stay at home and just wait until the benevolent Kaoru called him.
"Know what," Die smirked, tilting his head to look the other boy straight in the eyes. "I'll start compromising right away and give you time to think about that." On their own his hands had travelled down the older teen's back to his butt and he used the grip to pull him a bit closer. That was still completely normal for them but it was possibly the furthest they had gotten. Despite some tentative touches they still weren't past the kissing-stage.
Still, it was always new, made Kaoru gasp a bit this time as he was squeezed closer to the other teen in such a demanding way. The next moment, he chuckled a bit and then relaxed, only concentrating on the closeness for the time being. It was special to him that they didn't rush with anything, but still he had to admit that he had thought about how it would be to get further, to touch Die more intimately, to see his face then, hear the sounds that would escape his throat.
Besides, he couldn't deny that he sometimes had problems to control himself as his body seemed to have developed a life on its own. If not now, then when, he asked himself and suddenly burst out. "Die, I wanna sleep with you." Realizing how unromantic and out of place that must have sounded, he hurried to add. "Well, I mean once. Maybe not in too long. I think.. I mean..." When he noticed that he was stuttering, he rather fell silent, trying to force down the blush that had crept on his face.
The redhead had been a bit surprised at first at hearing the statement and seeing the other's blush now made it hard for him not to giggle. He bit it back though, not wanting to sound mocking in the slightest. He had been thinking about it too, had been imagining how it'd be to take the further step together. But he had never collected enough guts to actually talk about it and he was glad too that
Kaoru brought it up. "Yeah, I know what ya mean." He nodded firmly, "I... I really want it too. In... not so long."
"How long is not so long?" Kaoru asked and it didn't sound like he wanted to pressure the redhead, but more like he had no idea himself. Besides, there was this one question burning on his mind. If they went all the way once, which way would it be? He had no idea, but didn't want to give away as he tried to appear as confident and secure as possible. The whole matter itself was already embarrassing and confusing enough for the both of them.
"I - I don't know," Die stuttered a tiny bit but tried to act more secure than he actually was. Come on, how hard could it be to talk about it? Apparently hard, as he found himself blushing slightly. "Like... too long would be months, right?"
A hasty nod was the answer. "Yeah, that would be too long." The older teen pursed his lips pondering. "So maybe... we could say, that sometime during summer?" Somehow it was weird to set a date or a time-span for something like that but then, he really wanted it, wanted to try it together with Die badly.
That was mostly the reason why they were actually setting a date for it in the first place. Both of them wanted it, badly, but they were so nervous about it that they were afraid of always backing away when got closer. After thinking for mere seconds Die nodded as an answer. "Sometime during summer sounds good. We... should see when we, you know, even have the chance."
"Yes. And we don't have to rush things or do it when it feels awkward, right!" Kaoru nodded agreeing. He was relieved that his boyfriend and he seemed to think alike and maybe they wouldn't even have had to talk about it, but now they had done it and it was good. Only that he asked himself how they should get there without always feeling pressured.
"Yeah, of course." Die nodded instantly at the words. "No need to feel awkward..." He didn't know really what to make of this conversation, to be honest. It made him calmer to know they agreed on the most important things and it felt good to have talked about this. But then again, now that it was on the table he felt oddly nervous, not knowing when or how it'd work out for real.

Suddenly, he became aware of some other students passing them by, throwing curious glances at them.

But I did finish my homework so I could read it without feeling guilty. xD
I love their relationship. It's so... real.
You know, there are too many stories where everything goes all perfectly and they're all over each other in five minutes.
But seriously... I rarely read stories (I get bored too easily) but argh, I love this.
And I shall shush now because I've gone insane. Too much cuteness for one day.

Thank you~! It's really good to hear you liked it, and the slower pace too :) We thought that they would definitely need their time coming to terms with things x)
