[livejournal.com profile] seinen_no: So, this might be the mosth cliché ending we could have come up with, but well, I like it. True love and all that, right? Isn't that the reason why we read fics? Because they are better than reality. I hope you enjoy it too and it's not too much like the first ending. I think it's different enough, but well, I'm not objective^^

[livejournal.com profile] fonulyn: Well I don’t really know what to say about this ending without giving away too much of it in advance. Just… I hope you enjoy? x) This has similarities to the first one but it’s not quite the same, you’ll notice why 8D

Worlds Collide
Chapter 6b

"So you deny everything?" The lord asked, not sure how many times he had asked it already. Somehow he felt betrayed, because his own son didn't stand up for the order his father represented, and was now suspected of breaking one of the most important rules. Besides, his younger son had been quite convincing, had told him things that made him think that maybe his firstborn had changed too much during the years he had been away.

On the floor Die was silently praying that the lord would believe them, afraid that they would hurt his lover, do something to him. And he simply couldn't take much more of the pain either, his back bleeding from several cuts.

"What are you expecting from me? To admit something that's wrong?" Kaoru managed to still hold his father's gaze but when the whip lashed through the air once more and he heard his lover moan in pain, he wasn't sure if he could keep up his façade for long.

"Father," Tanaka addressed the lord. "If he doesn't care for that slave, then why don't we take in all the guards to see for themselves what makes his services so special for Kaoru?" At a moment's notice, all colour fled from Kaoru's face and he swallowed hard, waiting for his father's reply, still hoping that there was a sense of reason left inside the man.

Die flinched noticeably at the words, hoping that it was just meant to frighten them. He was literally shaking, fearing for the worst as the silence dragged on. For a moment it seemed as if the lord would refuse, not wanting to take part in something of that kind. But it struck him as odd how his older son had turned pale which made him nod slowly. "Fine." Tanaka's grin was nothing but self content as he got his will through.

The word was like a stab straight into Kaoru's heart and he couldn't breathe for a moment. Petrified, he watched how one of the guards was sent outside, returning with more men. Two dragged Die up to stand on his feet, forced him to bend over the table. "No!" Kaoru heard his own voice echo in the room, but couldn't remember that he had opened his mouth to speak.

In a desperate movement, he pushed the men away from his lover and wrapped his arms around him, sinking to the ground. "Please leave him alone." His voice was faint, pleading and there were tears shimmering in his eyes when he raised his gaze to look at his father. Instinctively Die leaned against the other man, finding comfort in the closeness although he knew that now it was all in the open, now there was nothing to save them any longer.

Kaoru's reaction had caused a dark shadow to cast over the lord's features, and he stood there silently for a moment, his expression clearly showing his disgust. "So Tanaka was right. You've disgraced your family!" His voice was shaking with suppressed anger. "I will see what punishment is fit for you. And as for the slave," he turned to look at the redhead. "he will die tomorrow."

"No father, please don't. Have mercy." Kaoru begged, shaking his head frantically. "If you kill him, you will have to kill me too." He clung to the redhead, held tight to him even when two guards tried to separate them. "Father!"

"Take him to his room!" Fulfilling the lord's order two guards grabbed his son and dragged him up, forcefully separating the two lovers who tried to cling to each other. Kaoru could do nothing when he was dragged towards his room and locked up there, while other guards took the redhead down to the very same cell where he had spent the previous night.

The lord's older son remained cowering on the floor where the two guards had dropped him and tried to gather a clear thought. 'He will die tomorrow.' The words were still echoing in his ears and blocked his mind, bereaved him the capability to think straight. What could he do? When the tears had slowly subsided, he got on his shaky legs and tried to open the door only to find that the two guards were still standing there. One of them shook his head, signalling him that he was a prisoner in his own house. He needed to get Die out of prison before dawn somehow. So Kaoru sat down at the edge of the bed and wrecked his brains. Was there anybody he could trust?

Meanwhile the redhead had been locked up into the small cell, and he curled up into a small ball, hugging his legs close. His back was aching, still bleeding, but the far bigger pain was the one he had to go through inside his heart. He was scared, scared to die and scared that they wouldn't stop after he was gone and would do something to hurt his lover. There was nothing he could do, being imprisoned, with no hope for escape.

After finding all the doors blocked for him, Kaoru carefully opened a window and peeked outside into the dark yard. Guards were patrolling there, more than usual, and it would be plain suicide to just get down there. Hoping, that the other side was clear, Kaoru used a moment when no guard was beyond his window, to climb out and up towards the roof. He had done that as a child already to meet with the redhead and knew exactly where he had to reach to finally pull himself up and get a foot on the flat roof.

Silently, he sneaked to the other side, cowering so that nobody could spot him from below. His heart jumped a bit in joy when he found the courtyard empty. Easily, he climbed down and sneaked outside, always staying close to the wall. It was even no problem to reach the prison as he knew the turns the guards took, as he had been responsible for them himself. "Die?" he whispered, hoping his lover would give him a sign in which cell they had locked him up.

At first the redhead thought it was his own wild imagination when he heard his lover's voice somewhere in the darkness, but something made him answer in a low voice. "Kao?" Although his back was like on fire, hurting with each movement, he sat up, crawled to the door of his cell and tried to peek outside through a small gap.

Kaoru was already there, reaching for him through the grids. "Die." He smiled, but it went to waste in the darkness. Quickly, he got on his feet and opened the lock. It was good that he knew where the guards kept the keys and that he had spent a lot of time in the dungeons as a child too. As the door flung open, the younger man threw himself at his lover, hugging him without caring for the pain the action caused for him. He knew Kaoru was risking his life by coming there and that they weren't supposed to get caught, but couldn't deny himself that small affectionate gesture.

"It's alright." One could hear the relief in Kaoru's voice and he carefully wrapped his arms around his lover in turn. "Everything's going to be fine now." Gently, but firmly, he pushed Die away again though. "But first I need you to come with me and be as quiet as you can."

"Okay." Die nodded seriously, offering the other man a tiny smile as took his hand and laced their fingers. Somehow only having the other man close like that gave him courage, made him believe that there might be a slight chance to escape. It was almost too easy for them to sneak out of the dungeons, but since they knew every corner and every recess by heart from playing hide and seek as children, it was no problem for them to dodge the guards.

Once outside, Kaoru determinedly led the way towards the stables, hoping that they wouldn't be discovered until they were outside the palace. Their hearts were beating frantically, every single sound making them flinch and think they had been spotted already. In the darkness of the night it was easier for them to hide, and they took full advantage of that fact. Kaoru managed to get them both a horse, and they quickly saddled them.

Just as they had mounted the horses a young stable-boy came around the corner, his eyes widening as he spotted the two men. Instinctively he shrieked, as he didn't recognize the people in the dark and thought they were burglars, alarming all the guards with his voice.

"Shut up!" Kaoru hissed, but it was too late. Lights were coming closer as guards had lit some torches to see what had alarmed the stable boy. "Go!" With his reins, Kaoru slapped Die's horse and made it jump forward, spurring his own. Racing, they reached the huge gate before the archers had the opportunity to shoot their arrows at them. Behind, the guards were mounting horses, yelling commands, some chasing after them by foot.

Die wasn't a particularly good rider, and his back was still like on fire, the cuts and bruises burning from each small movement. He bit the insides of his cheeks to get a grip of himself, focusing on making the horse run as fast as it could. He glanced to the side every now and then though, just to make sure Kaoru was still with him, close and unharmed. The lord's son was a skilled rider and he always staid a tiny bit behind his lover not to lose him.

They were racing through the darkness, but suddenly, Die's horse stepped into a hole and fell. Although Kaoru reacted knee-jerk, he was already a few paces further when he finally managed to halt his horse, jumping out off the saddle to see if the other man was alright. "Die? Die? Is everything okay?" One glance at the horse told him that the animal's leg was either broken or sprained and it certainly wouldn't run again.

The redhead forced himself to get up from the ground, groaning pained. "I think I hurt my knee." He was barely able to stand properly, looking at his lover with desperation in the eyes.

"No problem." Kaoru backed him up and reached for the reins of his own, nervously prancing and neighing, horse. First, he helped his lover mount and then easily jumped into the saddle behind him. Their chasers were almost there and one could hear the hooves thunder on the ground. Mercilessly, Kaoru spurred his horse which now had to carry two people and was slowed down. Die leaned weakly against him, trying to shut the sounds of their chasers out of his mind. They could clearly hear how the bunch that followed them seemed to be getting closer and closer, as well as their horse was getting more and more exhausted.

An eruption must have caused some rocks to roll down the mountains and were now blocking their way. Frustrated, Kaoru pulled the reins to change directions, but their horse soared and almost kicked him off its back. It was too exhausted to go on much further. "We have to walk," he quickly decided, slid off the animal's back and held up his arms to help his lover. "Come on, just behind those rocks. They won't follow us there by foot."

Die nodded, although he didn't completely believe the other man's words, as those sounded too optimistic to be true. They could practically sense the chasers breathe down their neck, as they were so close. Still Die took his lover's hand, leaning against him to be able to walk although his knee was swelling more every moment.

After giving their horse a hard slap to make it dart off, Kaoru dragged the other man with him, climbing above those rocks to buy them some time. It was tough luck that they took the wrong way in the darkness as only after a few steps, they were standing in front of the cliff, the ocean roaring several metres beyond their feet. The chasers were there and the guards dismounted their horses, climbing over the rocks as they knew that the two were trapped.

Die took a look over his shoulder, desperation clear in his eyes when he saw how close the others were already. He sneaked his arms around his lover, trying to find comfort in the embrace although they both knew they were lost. This was it.

Kaoru closed his eyes, fighting the tears of desperation. Everything had been in vain. Gently, he put his hand under his lover's chin, lifting his head. For a few seconds that seemed like an eternity, they were gazing each other in the eyes.

"I love you." The words were nothing but a breath, carried away by the wind which blew strongly on the top of the cliff. Their lips met in one last, soft kiss and when their followers were already chasing towards them, Kaoru took a strong hold of his lover's hand.

In silent stipulation, they took the last step together and jumped.

I like this version better than the first one. Even if it still was a sad ending, but both of them won. *nods*

For me it kind of made it better that this time they chose to die instead of being killed. haha, but I'm probably the only one who likes the first ending more than the second still, it's such drama and tragedy and I love to cry at it at times XD
