Descendants of Darkness
Chapter 4
Toshiya regularly tried his luck by going to the house, hoping that the redheaded vampire would be there. He was lucky even, since he found the other one in the house alone without Kaoru around several times. He still feared the shorter vampire and was sure he cast dark glances at him although he hadn't touched him or had tried to harm him otherwise ever.
But a single glare from him was enough to make the blood freeze in his veins, to make his heart stop beating. It still didn't manage to draw the human away from the redheaded vampire though and he tried to meet Die whenever possible.
Once they were alone, the creature seemed totally different, almost loving and his kisses were sweet if one asked Toshiya. He would never let go of him, was totally fascinated, even if it'd cost his life.
One night, he actually waited outside the house to follow them on the hunt. He had no idea why, but he was partly hoping to find his suspicion confirmed that all evilness came from Kaoru and not from the one he had fallen in love with. At one point, he lost track though as the vampires were moving too fast, too quiet and skilled for him to follow.
He was determined nevertheless, and did all he could to still find the two. He was lucky, since that night the vampires didn't even try to be careful and he managed to find them again after wandering around lost for several hours.
At first, he had no idea why his attention was drawn towards this one particular house, but he decided to trust his instincts and headed there. He peeked through the windows to see what was going on inside, but it looked just like any normal house at this late hour, lights out and the rooms dark. There was a ray of light seeping out of one of the windows though and he sneaked there, taking a look inside the room to see what was happening inside.
At that very instant he froze, his eyes snapping completely open and he couldn't help but to stare. Die and Kaoru were inside there, his instinct to take a look at the house had been right after all, but they weren't on the hunt. Not if one didn't count the fact that they were practically eating each other alive, being all over each other.
Carefully, he looked around if nobody was near and then tiptoed to gain a better view, getting as close to the window as possible. There was Kaoru, his face bloodstained, his features being nothing but the remembrance of the human that had been there before. He had pinned the redhead against the wall, face first, both of their pants dangling around their ankles, partly ripped and torn.
Toshiya's heart froze as he witnessed the smaller vampire fuck the redhead hard, practically nailing him against the wall without giving him the chance to react in any way. It made his blood boil just before it stagnated when he heard the inhuman sounds that were accompanying the action. Only after a moment, the young man saw that Die's hands had grabbed the smaller vampire's wrists, that he was holding onto him… urging him on?
No matter what the black haired man tried, he couldn't suppress an enormous wave of jealousy that flared up inside of him. Not only did he witness the one he loved being taken by someone else, but it was also clear that the redhead enjoyed every single second of it.
The inhuman sounds which were falling from his lips, the clear look of bliss on his face, everything in the situation told that it was mutual. Toshiya didn't know whether to cry, yell or just run into the room and try to kill both vampires with his bare hands. He was biting his lip harshly until it drew blood when he witnessed Die climax, saw him throw his head back and cry out in pure pleasure.
He would have wanted to be there, would have wanted to be the reason for those sounds, for the pleasure-distorted features of the redhead and although it hurt somewhere deep inside, he couldn't tear his gaze off the two creatures. Time and time again, Toshiya told himself that this meant nothing, that this was just relieving some pressure, nothing else. Only for a split second, he had closed his eyes, but when he opened them again, he saw Die on the floor, hovering above the smaller vampire with a smirk dancing on his lips.
There was a dead woman lying right next to them, but Toshiya had no eyes for her, felt no regrets as his every sense was directed at the vampires who were seemingly high from the kill and now channelled those feelings by screwing each other blind.
He had no idea how long he stood there, simply staring at the happenings inside that room. He witnessed Die take Kaoru on the floor, the smaller vampire take revenge straight afterwards by nailing the redhead against a huge armchair, and soon he had completely lost count of how many times he had actually seen those two share the act of passion.
Finally, his eyes were burning from unshed tears and he turned away, running as fast as he could. At first he had wanted to head home, but in the end found himself standing in front of the building Die and Kaoru used as their hideout. Still fighting the tears he ran inside, practically throwing himself on the huge bed and burying his face into the mattress.
At that moment, he didn't care if there was the possibility of other vampires just barging in nor that Die and Kaoru could return any moment as well and he didn't have a good explanation why he was crying. It took him some time until the tears had finally subsided and there was only a dry sob shaking his being every now and then. He was so lost in his agony that he didn't notice the slight sound that showed that the door was opened.
Die and Kaoru exchanged a quick glance when they saw the form on the bed, and the smaller vampire retreated wordlessly, staying outside the room while Die stepped inside. Unnoticed by the human, he slowly walked towards the bed, sat down on the edge and only then addressed him. "What are you doing here?" Despite the words his voice wasn't harsh, more surprisingly soft.
Toshiya flinched noticeably and quickly wiped his eyes and cheeks with the back of his hand. He turned to look straight at the vampire though, his lips pressed together to thin line, an accusing expression in his eyes. "Why did you fuck him?" he burst out, unable to hold the question back as it had been burning on his mind throughout the whole time.
Die arched an eyebrow, looking somewhat puzzled. "Fuck whom?" he asked although it was pretty clear there was only one person the other man could've meant in the first place.
"Kaoru." The answer was a choked sob and Toshiya averted his gaze to the side, not wanting the vampire to see that tears were welling up in his eyes again.
"Tosh," The redhead rolled his eyes slightly, addressing the human by the petname he had naturally begun to use straight away. "I've been fucking him for longer than I can remember." He saw no point in lying about it to the other man and just confessed it straight out.
"But you never fucked me like that," the human griped. He didn't care that he sounded like a stubborn child, but seeing his beloved one screw this other vampire, him out of anybody possible, had made him blind with jealousy. He knew very well though that, if Die would act according to his wishes, it would seriously tear him apart.
"You're different," Die snapped, something like anger flashing in his eyes even as he turned to look at the young man. "You're human. You should know what you can take and what not. And THAT, you would never be able to take."
"Yes, but....!" But Toshiya didn't know what else he should say, what he could reply to this undeniable fact. "I still don't need to like it," he finally mumbled, pouting like a child.
"No," The vampire shook his head a bit, a small grin finding its way to his lips. "You don't need to like it." He took the human's chin between his fingers, tilting his head to look at him. "Just forget it ever happened." With that he simply leaned closer and pressed their lips together.
And Toshiya did just that. From the moment when their lips met, his sadness was like washed away, even the jealousy was gone as if it had never existed. Kisses like those made him believe that, no matter what would happen in between, Die and he would make it in the end, that they really had a chance.
The kiss took long, and when they parted the redhead had based his hand on the other man's cheek, stroking it lazily with his thumb. "Now go home. I'm tired." He looked the human in the eye, and despite that it was a command, it didn't come out harshly.
Still, Toshiya knew that it wouldn't make any sense to argue. Besides, it was already dawning outside and he was tired too. No matter how much he would have loved to stay and sleep beside the vampire's cold body, he quickly got up and hurried towards the door without casting a glance back. "Sleep well," he whispered before turning the handle and slipping through the door into the always dark corridor.
For a long moment Die simply sat on the bed's edge, staring at the closed door. There was no telling what went on in his mind, his eyes black and completely blank, not giving away a single emotion that went through him.
Just when the young man had reached the door that led to the staircase, he was held back by a deep voice. "You've seen us, right?" Kaoru sounded amused and stepped closer to let him feel his presence.
"Yes," Toshiya closed his eyes, fighting for control and tried hard to remain cool so that he wouldn't do something he'd regret. He still feared the smaller vampire, as he looked like he could mercilessly slash his throat whenever he wanted. "I saw you."
"Enjoyed it?" A throaty chuckle echoed from the walls and one could practically see the amusement written across the vampire's features. Suddenly, he trapped Toshiya with his back against the wall and his face was only millimetres away. "Don't get your hopes too high. You're just his pet."
"You have no idea what's going on between us." Toshiya's voice was shaking but he managed to press out the words surprisingly firm, gazing back deep into the vampire's eyes. He was convinced that he was the one Die's loyalty really belonged to and if there was anything between the two vampires, they were simply only fucking each other's brains out and nothing more.
"You are right," Kaoru gave away freewillingly. "I don't even care what you think is going on between you. That's none of my business." His voice softened a bit as if he was trying to sound trustworthy. "But if you think that it's more than a petlove, you're wrong. Just get the hell outta here while you still can."
"You're the one who's wrong!" The black haired man practically only hissed out, not knowing even himself how he had the courage to stand up to a vampire. "I trust him." He honestly meant it, and no matter how foolish it might've been, he would trust the redhead with his life.
The words made Kaoru laugh, an artificial, malicious laugh. "Fool! Well, the only thing I promise you is that it won't be me who takes the first bite." Smirking, he retreated a bit, making way for the human.
Toshiya's heart was pounding wildly in his chest and he just gave the vampire one last dark glance before hurrying away from the building. He was confused, didn't know what to do, but just the remembrance of the redhead's soft lips on his own calmed him down.
He hadn't dared to tell Shinya about this incident, but somehow the blonde man felt that something had changed. Toshiya had become more quiet than usual during their meetings and there was this certain blankness in his eyes at times. Still, whenever addressed, Toshiya played everything down and switched on a fake merry smile, telling his friend that he was still convinced he would be able to win the redhead over for the humans.
Everything began to bother Shinya more and more though as he noticed how his friend was changing with every passing day. He hadn't dared to interfere before, other than telling Toshiya to drop it, but finally he had come to the conclusion that he had to do something.
One day, when Toshiya sneaked out to go to the place where the vampires were hiding, he followed him in a short distance. First, he thought he'd only take a look at what was happening inside the vampires' hideout, but then he decided to go inside as well.
There were lights everywhere in the house and he heard different people talk so there were definitely more than only Die and Kaoru. After peeking through a small gap in a door, Shinya decided that it was about time to get Toshiya out of there, to make him see that this was no place for him.
A vampire, the young blonde man had never seen him before, was feeding on a young woman who was seemingly drugged, offering her throat to him as if it was the most natural thing to do. Hardly able to suppress an outcry, Shinya turned around and quickly made his way to the cellar, knowing from Toshiya's stories that he would probably be found there. Just when he had descended the stairs though, a cold hand grabbed his throat. "Look look. What do we have here...?"
*
With time, Die had allowed Toshiya to stay with them during the day occasionally to simply curl up in bed beside him and stay there as long as he didn't disturb his sleep. This was one of those days and the black haired man was feeling happier than in a long time, grateful for whatever he got. He had to get up in the early afternoon though, because he still had business to attend as he had to make a living somehow and he had promised to take care of some work that day.
Reluctantly he got up, careful not to wake up the vampire and sneaked to the door. He had already closed it behind himself when he almost tripped over something, cursing under his breath. In the next second, the silent curse turned into a panicked scream though, his eyes widening in shock. It was a body. And not just a body of some stranger. It was Shinya.
The loud scream had alarmed and woken the sleeping vampires and within seconds, they were gathering around the human. All of them knew about Die's petlove to the black haired man and since Kaoru was there too, they respected it and didn't say anything.
"What's the problem?" Kaoru pushed one of their fellow vampires aside and stepped forward. They had allowed some of their kind to stay over a couple of nights since some humans had raided their hideouts and destroyed them. It was safer to gather and always have somebody who kept an open eye on the door.
"Sh-sh-shin..." Toshiya was stuttering, staring at his friend whose throat was ripped open, his dead eyes staring blankly into nothingness. He dropped down on his knees beside his friend, pulling him on his lap. "Oh god, please, not this... Shin, wake up... Who did this!?" He was talking mostly to himself, not noticing the vampires around him. Die had gotten up as well and halted right behind the black haired man, wordlessly placing his hand on his shoulder.
It had no effect though as Toshiya was crying shamelessly, still shaking his friend's limb body. Most of the other vampires turned around to get back to their resting places, simply not interested in some human as long as he wasn't listed on their menu. Kaoru instead remained there, a smug smile on his lips. "Well, I think it's safe to say that it wasn't me."
"Tosh, go home." Die's soft voice didn't seem to have any effect on the human, and so he gave his shoulder a slight squeeze. "Go home and rest."
"B-but I can't just leave him here." The young man looked up at the redhead, tears running down his cheeks in torrents. Then, he turned back to his dead friend. "Oh Shin, why on earth did you follow me? Stupid you!"
"Toshiya!" The redhead's voice bore a warning undertone since he was far from being in a good mood now that his sleep had been interrupted. "Just go. I will bring your friend back to his home later."
The young man flinched and reluctantly let go of his friend. "Promised?" he asked, his voice choked and hardly audible.
Kaoru made an annoyed hand gesture. "You heard him. Go now!"
"Yes. Promised." Die gave a slight nod at the human, took a hold of his shoulder and easily lifted him up to stand on his feet. "There's nothing for you to do here now."
Stumbling over his own feet, Toshiya left, running all the way until he was finally at home. Of course he blamed himself for what had happened, but why on earth did Shinya have to follow him? He had known how dangerous it was, had told him several times to let go of Die and not to go there anymore. Now he was dead and there was nothing Toshiya could do to bring him back.
