Comments:
[livejournal.com profile] seinen_no: As promised, here's the new story. Hmm, I know it sounds selfish, but I like it; like the mood. It really is totally different from "First love, last love" and although it's (again) a vampire fic, it again is totally different than "The thin line…" (I hope). I really like the mood in the beginning a lot. Maybe because it's autumn now (almost winter) and one tends to get melancholy then (or me). Okay, enough blabla. Just read for yourselves if you like it^^ Have fun!

[livejournal.com profile] fonulyn: heh, as already mentioned above, this is AGAIN a vampire story XD But what can I say, we love vampires? 8D And trust me, it IS different from the previous one we wrote, at least to me it’s clear it has a pretty different mood altogether. Anyways, it’s going to be probably a bit shorter one, we’re not sure about the chapters yet. And the title is stolen from a manga, I know, but the story has NOTHING to do with said manga. Buuut, now I’m just babbling. Give it a try and enjoy :D

And feel free to add our journal if you like the stories!
Plus, the archive.

Descendants of Darkness
Chapter 1

A new generation of vampires had arisen from the darkest depths of hell. Evil, ruthless and with an irrepressible craving for human blood were they roaming the city streets at night to allay their thirst, leaving a trail of death and agony behind for those poor souls who happened to cross their ways.

The times of hiding, of secretly killing and trying to cover the tracks were long gone. The new vampires didn't live according to rules, didn't belong to a certain ancient society or community anymore. They were individuals, randomly teaming up and scattering again without showing loyalty or solidarity towards their kind.

Sadly, the modern humans refused to believe in mythical creatures like vampires and hence even supported their reckless existence by explaining the drained, slashed bodies that were found with the brutalization of society.

It was there, underneath the surface and people KNEW that something was going on, that the explanations in the news and in the papers couldn't be all true, but the humanly need to push back inexplicable things, unnatural things, caused them to swallow it anyways without resistance.

Still, time after time more victims were found, the massacres costing the lives of dozens of people. It didn't change even when the vampires were becoming more and more bold with their actions. Whole families were murdered right in their own homes, groups of people attacked and no longer only people walking in the streets alone after dark or homeless people who nobody would miss. No one was safe anymore, and the vampires had come to stay. There weren't enough people who would be willing to stand up to them, to their undeniable power.

For every vampire who was sent back to death by a lucky human, a new one originated from somewhere. And the vampires were clever, learned that it was best to quickly get rid of those people who actually could become a threat to their lives, tracked them down to eliminate them mercilessly.

For most of them, it was plain fun. This wasn't about power, about creating a dark age where vampires ruled the world; it was just about living according to their likes, taking what they wanted when they wanted it. Modern technology made things almost too easy for them and while a mere human would just send their friends an email to ask if they would meet at the movies, they used the internet to organize a hunt just for fun.

People still thought that it was safer to stay in groups, assuming that it would keep them from being attacked. So did this merry bunch of friends that was returning home after a party, late at night when the only sources of light were the bright neon-signs of the city. What they didn't know was that vampires were drawn in by groups like these like moths by a flame.

It was no fun to team up against one or two humans, the whole bloodbath being too short for the vampires' taste. Just like these two creatures, they waited for small groups of people, having their fun slaughtering them all.

It was nothing but a shimmer of red in the corner of your eye, a dark shadow somewhere near you and suddenly your throat was sliced open wide, your blood spilled on your still laughing friends who didn't have the time to notice what had happened.

Even if you were lucky enough to survive the first attack and ran for your life through the dark alleys, fear and adrenalin making your heart pump fast, allowing you to forget the burning in your lungs, you soon found out that you had never had a chance in the first place.

It is just a whiff and in the next moment you are down on your knees, blood spilling from your throat, filling your mouth which makes breathing impossible. The last thing you'll see is a tall man stepping out of the shadows, his features distorted into a grimace, blood dripping from his chin, his dark red hair standing in crass contrast to the almost waxen white skin. You want to scream for help, but all that you get out is a gargling noise, your vocal chords destroyed with the same hit that had slashed your throat.

Terrified, you stare at the figure who displays a smug smile, teasingly running his tongue over one of his sharp white fangs as if he was waiting for something. Slowly, he would step aside, making way for another man, smaller, his features even fiercer than his own, his charcoal black eyes fixed on you like a wolf fixed its prey. You could see his chin-beard shimmer wet, see blood running down his neck, soaking his black shirt and then there is only pain until darkness engulfs you forever.

No survivors, no witnesses to be left alive. That was the deal and if vampires attacked a bunch of people it was rare that even one managed to escape. In the midst there was still a body moving, twitching, and quickly the shorter of the vampires sank his teeth into the victim to make sure he would follow his friends into the arms of death.

The redheaded vampire was scanning the bodies, the grin still on his face, counting them triumphantly, until his eyes fell on the tall, slender form of a young black haired man who was staring at him from wide open eyes, his whole being trembling. The young man's shirt was soaked in blood, some of the red substance spilled on his face and hair as well, but he was obviously unharmed himself.

The first reaction of the vampire was a frown. How could they have missed one? But then he just took a quick step forward. Something stopped him though, and he froze in the movement, only staring at the vulnerable figure in front of him.

The human had lifted his arms in a protecting manner despite the knowledge that this wouldn't help him, but when nothing happened after a few moments, he carefully peeked at the redheaded vampire in front of him. The sight alone caused panic to well up inside him again, his thoughts running fast, trying to find a way out of this alive.

From the corner of his eyes, the black-haired man noticed that the smaller vampire was still busy searching the corpses for possible survivors and he sensed this was his only chance. "My name is Toshiya," he whispered, his voice trembling with fear. He had once heard that people were reluctant to kill somebody if they knew his name, and one looked them openly into the eye. Maybe this worked for vampires as well? At least this was his only hope, since he was certain that begging for his life would have no effect on those creatures.

The vampire was still like frozen, not making a single move to either kill the man in front of him or to let him go. No matter how much Toshiya tried to see something in his eyes, he saw mere blankness, not able to read anything from those dark pools. There wasn't even a single trace of the thoughts that were running through the redhead's mind.

Seconds passed by, feeling like hours, but finally there was a change. The arrogant smile re-appeared on the redhead's face and he even laughed. There was nothing cheerful in the laughter though, it was the kind of laugh that caused the blood to freeze in your veins and made your hackles curl. The laughter was still lingering in the air when the tall creature spoke up, his voice commanding and even somewhat amused. "Are you scared, Toshiya? Why aren't you begging for your life?" He even moved closer, looking like he was about to simply slash the young man's throat. When they were only inches apart from each other, he spoke up again though. "Go. Run for your life."

For a long second, Toshiya just stared at his counterpart, not daring to move a muscle. Was this a trap? Some kind of sick game where he was supposed to hope to go free only to follow the fate of his friends?

When nothing happened, the redhead leaned even closer, his cold, blood-scented breath striking his face. "GO!"

The word brought Toshiya back to reality and within the blink of an eye, he was on his feet, turned around and darted off as fast as his legs would carry him. He was a good runner, adrenalin giving him a boost and before he even knew it, he was already around the corner, leaving his dead friends and - hopefully - the vampires behind.

The movement had caught the smaller vampire's attention and he turned his head only to see one of their victims escape without the redhead seemingly doing anything. Slowly, he approached his companion and stepped behind him. "How much headstart do you want to give him before we hunt him down?" he asked purring, obviously delighted about the turning of things.

"We won't go after him." The taller vampire was staring into the direction where the only survivor had ran to, almost as if he could still see him. "We already had enough tonight." There wasn't any sign of emotion in his voice, only this cool firmness. He knew the other one didn't take orders from anyone, but they were partners, acknowledging each other's wishes.

"If you say so." There was something in the other vampire's voice that gave away he didn't agree completely. He didn't act on it further though and only wrapped his arms around the redhead's waist, running his fangs over the blood-stained skin of the neck.

"You might be right." The words were spoken low and the taller vampire could both feel and hear that his companion had changed back, the fangs making way for normal human teeth, his features becoming softer, allowing a view on the gorgeous face underneath. "Let's party!" he decided after licking away a bit of the dried blood and then stepped away.

The suggestion was met with a grin and a throaty chuckle from the taller man, who slowly changed back to normal human form as well, following his companion.

----------

"Damn it Toshiya!" A slim, blonde man turned to look at his friend, his eyes sparkling dangerously as he was obviously infuriated. "Are you NUTS? You fucking SURVIVED the attack of VAMPIRES! You have no idea how LUCKY you are! And you want to go BACK!?"

He was usually a calm, quiet man, keeping his composure in every situation imaginable, but this was simply too much for him and he had snapped completely.

"You weren't there, didn't see HIM!" the tall black haired man argued. "Besides, somebody has to do something against them, don't you think? I could go there and maybe find a way to destroy them."

Inwardly, Toshiya knew that this was nonsense. Right from the moment when he had reached his home, had closed the door to his apartment behind him, he hadn't been able to get the redheaded vampire out of his mind. There had be something in him, something fascinating and moreover something that had given him the impression that this one vampire wasn't pure evil.

"Maybe I can win him over, you know. Make him stop the killing." He spoke without thinking, only to make his friend see that this was a clever plan through and through and had nothing to do with a suicide commando.

"Win him over?" Shinya's features softened as he looked at his friend, something like pity in his eyes. "Tosh, please, don't." Slowly, he sat down across the table from his friend, looking him in the eye pleadingly. "You can't win over a vampire. You can't even go near a vampire without playing with your life." He noticed that he wouldn't get through to his friend with yelling, and now tried to just be his own, calm self and go for reasoning.

"But he let me run. If he had wanted to kill me, he would've come after me. It would've been easy for him to track me down," his friend stated firmly. Although he had been frightened to death, he was sure that he had seen something in the redheaded vampire's features and he wasn't willing to let anybody convince him otherwise. "And think of it," he tried to reason on his side, "it would give me, us, the opportunity to rid the earth of some of those evil bastards. C'mon, we both have seen enough vampire movies to at least give it a shot."

"And we've both seen enough vampire movies to know they're far from the truth!" Shinya rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed and trying to somehow get through to his friend. "He let you go once. Don't play with your luck, he might not do it again." He was deeply convinced that his friend was about to commit the biggest mistake of his life, and wanted to do all he could to prevent that.

"I promise I won't get myself into troubles. I just want to find their hideout and see if I can find him," Toshiya practically begged. He knew that Shinya was only worried and he even understood him. Still, there had been something in this special vampire which didn't let him rest.

"But can't you see it, if you find them that's already getting yourself into troubles." The other man sighed deeply, shaking his head a bit. "And please, don't start to run around those spooky alleys, especially not alone."

For a long moment, Toshiya only looked at his friend, a clearly visible pout on his lips. Finally, he shook his head. "I won't run around in the dark alone, promised." In his mind though, he added that he would still try to find their hideout, if only by day at fist. Once this didn't lead him anywhere, he could still go out and snoop around at night-time. After all, he wanted to find the redhead, not to get killed by one of his kind.

"Thank you. Tosh, this is just for your own protection." Shinya dared to give the other man a smile, reaching to take his hand in his own and give it a small squeeze. "Trust me."

To see his best friend so relieved warmed the taller man's heart and he gave him an honest smile. "I know." It had only been sheer luck that Shinya hadn't been with him that night as just then, one of his dogs had swallowed a toy and had to be brought to the vet. Maybe his friend wouldn’t be here anymore otherwise.

----------

Toshiya's heart was beating like mad when he sneaked around a corner, pulling up the collar of his jacket to protect him from the cold. He hadn't found any traces of the vampires by day, but one night, after he had hung out in a club with some friends, he had been lucky and seen one disappear in an old warehouse. Maybe this was it? Maybe this was where all of them were hiding? At least the windows had been repaired and cardboard on the inside prevented any daylight from seeping in.

Carefully, he cast a glance through the door that had been left ajar. After waiting for some time, Toshiya finally collected his wits and pushed it open a bit further. A sudden voice made him flinch and press his body against the wall again, hoping nobody had seen nor sensed him. This was way too dangerous and since he had seen no trace of the redheaded vampire, he decided to come back there during the day when it was less dangerous.

Vampire story! Yay! I look forward to this one!
Just one tiny little thing that stood out is that you called Toshiya a blackhead... and well, this is what a blackhead is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackhead

So you might wanna change that XD
Anyway, Die is just perfect for a vampire XD

[identity profile] fonulyn.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Damnit, WHERE did we call him that!? XD Totally slipped me somehow. haha, I must be tired x) Thanks for pointing it out!

...But! I liked it quite a bit so far, so I'm going to keep reading. xD

I wanna know what's going to happen next, how will Toshiya find them~ XD
You made me curious!

Haven't read your other vampire story, but now: I will! <3

[identity profile] fonulyn.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Vampire-stories CAN be done wrong too, it's not like I'd like all of them. But there's something so mysterious in vampires that I can't help but to be fascinated by them^^

I hope you'll like it too ;) And thanks for reading and commenting!

This was my brain when I read this: dakdfnakdfnasdfksdnafksdVAMPIRES! XD You two have killed me once again. I sort of got confused when I started to read and got to the interaction between Die and Toshiya, so I went back up to the top and saw it was a pairing and hit myself. XD That's what I get for not reading the pairing before hand. But yay! I'm super excited for that pairing because I have a secret weakness for it. <3 But also excited to see where Kaoru and Die relationship is going to come into this too.

Can't wait for more of this fic, you two! *Gives cookies.*

[identity profile] fonulyn.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
haha, it happens to me too, I don't always check the pairings beforehand XD And you're not the only one with a secret weakness for the pairing ;) I won't be saying anything to you about the DiexKaoru or the DiexToshiya -aspect of this story, you'll have to read to find out what happens in both cases 8D

*eats cookies* Thank you! Glad that you liked and hopefully you'll like the rest too!

[identity profile] sanghamyers.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
You evil women. xD Haven't read yet. Will do that soon.^^
I just wanted to let you know that I have a good guess that somebody wrote too much Toshi in their fics. *hides*

[identity profile] seinen-no.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
But baby, even a little bit of Toshi is too much Toshi for you, eh? I still will force you to read it to the end!

My god, definitely an exciting piece of writing. O_O
But I have to admit that I am not comfortable with my fear of where it might head. I swear I'll make you go through hell if this is gonna end the wrong way. Yeah, that's not nice to say. I know and I beg your forgiveness. I'm just not sure since all facts I know are the pairings and a warning about character death. Argh, this already won't let me go. I bet I'll be dreaming of it. *sighs*
Sorry for the bad review. I'm just a scared granny. XDDD
Still, this story is cool and exciting. So I'll pray. Or beg you. Whatever works. :p

[identity profile] fonulyn.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
haha, well, I don't know exactly WHERE you're fearing it might lead so thankfully I can't then spoil it by telling you anything XD
Well, I suppose you just have to read it till the end and if it turns out bad I promise you can then come after me with an axe x)

It's no bad review! Thank you for reading ^___^ *hugs* Your comments are ALWAYS appreciated!

[identity profile] mareilling.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
okay honey and honey,

can I really read this? ._.
it's partitially TxD .. which means an abandond K
and then you write about death of a character, which is berühring the laws of untouchebility of the 5 gods ._.

and that is really really a big change to your last story too *my my, my english-chip isn't working tonight -.-*

but ....

this story (which I didn't start reading yet, and won't in a while, beacause the TxD and death of a charcter is scaring me :/) has let me to take a look at the real rabenhorst site and not just the entry on my friends-page ... and: your current Diex Kao art is o beautifull ö.ö die auswahl of the pictures suits so nicely ö.ö

[identity profile] fonulyn.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, I don't know what to answer to you, really. I wouldn't want to give away too much about the upcoming plot. If you feel like you can't deal with the death of a character, then I'd suggest not to read since we can't take that back now and the characters will die when their time comes. But about the TxD aspect... I would say it's safe for you to read it. Trust me on that. It's still strongly KxD.

Oh, thank you! ^__^ I'm glad to hear that. I was hoping that I'd get the header to look nice :)
