If I had more time I wish I could have commented in each chapter. I'm sorry you only got one measly comment at the end - you deserved more. And no, good fic does not rely on flashy plot or over-dramatic scenes. The subtle, realistic development through this story was very enjoyable and heartwarming. You both did an excellent job. It's harder, really, to write such realistic stories. Without relying on shock and fast-pacing, it shows whether writers are truly talented or not.
