Oh, and sea plantain is a plant that looks like this: http://images.quizilla.com/F/FO/FON/fonulyn/1136751496_seaplantain.jpg
I don’t know if there’s sea plantain in Japan, but I decided to use it anyway^^
Shore
Soft wind was blowing, bringing the last warm caresses that the summer still had to give as a blonde slender man was walking along the shoreline. It had been an unusually long summer, he thought. Or maybe it had just felt so long because that year his holiday had been longer than ever before since the band was formed. The sand tickled his bare feet and he inhaled the fresh air simply enjoying the feeling. “Hey Kaoru! Wait for me!” The blonde man turned around when he heard a familiar voice call him from behind.
He only had the time to notice a man with bright red hair running towards him before they collided and fell into a pile of limbs near the waterline. “Dammit, Die! Stop doing that.” Kaoru spat some sand from his mouth and looked at the grinning face just inches away from his own. “Whoopsie.” The younger man didn’t seem to be bothered by being shouted at, he just smiled adorably. “Don’t be angry, leadersama, I’m just having fun. Don’t start with that old-man –act.” He nuzzled his face closer to the other’s cheek while making no move to get away from on top of him. “I’m not angry. But the sand gets into my mouth and my eyes. It’s not fun. And don’t call me names or I’m going to kick you out of our apartment. Besides you’re heavier than you look.”
Kaoru squirmed under the other man trying to get out. The redhead’s grin widened even more when he watched the lead guitarist’s unsuccessful attempts. “Aww, Kao, you’re so cute. Gimme a kiss?” The lead guitarist halted and gave the other a considering look before replying. “If you promise to let me up then.” “Deal.” Die leaned closer and connected their lips in the most passionate way possible. After they broke for air Kaoru looked expectantly at the younger guitarist. “Well?” Die looked puzzled. “Well what?” “Are you going to get off me?” The redhead laughed happily before getting on his feet and offering a helping hand to the man still lying on the ground. They continued to walk further along the shore, side by side.
“Kaooo…” A whining voice broke the silence when they’d walked for only a few minutes. “I have sand in my shoes…” Kaoru turned to look at the redhead who had formed a quite believable pout. He shrugged. “Then take ‘em off.” The younger man flopped down to sit on the sand. He opened his shoelaces and threw the shoes somewhere behind his back. The older man raised his eyebrow quizzically. “What on earth are you doing?” Die only leaned backward to rest his back against the ground. “I’m staying here.” He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply while the older one stared at him, confused. “What? Why? Quit being so childish…”
The redhead rose up slightly. “Why not? This place is as good as any. Look now, Kao, the shoreline, the sky, you, me, the ocean. What else do we need?” The older man found no reason to argue, so he sat down beside the other. They sat quietly and watched how a flock of seagulls flew around in the air, screaming out loud. Die took some sea plantain in his hands and began to tinker with it, he always had to have something to do with his hands. Kaoru stared at the horizon, playing with a stick he’d found lying on the sand. It was a peaceful moment, no need to hurry anywhere, just relaxing.
”Hey Kaoru, can I ask you something?” Kaoru nodded and drew a line in the sand with the stick. “How come you never got married?” The blonde man raised his head and stared at his companion unbelievingly. Where did that come from? “I mean… Did you ever consider marrying Aki, for example? She was madly in love with you.” Kaoru shook his head. “More like madly in love with the money I make.” There was a silent moment, only small waves made soft noises when hitting the sand and rocks. Kaoru took a sideway glance at his love, who was nervously looking at his hands. Then Die cleared his throat and began again. “What about Mika? She was nice. Could you have considered marrying her?”
The lead guitarist had thought that their relationship had balanced itself in a way, that they were as close as two people could get. And now here Die was, asking him stupid questions about his former relationships. Beginning to get really frustrated Kaoru snorted and knitted his eyebrows. “For god’s sake, Die! I dated Mika six years ago. Six! Where are you heading with this?” Die avoided the older man’s gaze and only mumbled quietly. “I guess I just wanted to know if you believe in marriage. In two people sharing their eternity…”
Kaoru didn’t know what to answer. He hated to admit it, but he was really so confused that not even a single thought popped into his mind. Then Die moved his hands revealing the thing he’d been working on the whole time. It was sea plantain twined in circular shape, vaguely resembling a ring. Die smiled modestly and looked Kaoru in the eye. “I guess I just wanted to ask you to marry me.” The blonde man still didn’t know what to say so he just answered the gaze. He looked long deep into those eyes full of love.
Moments passed in silence.
And just when Die was about to lower his gaze Kaoru moved slightly, offering his hand to the other man. The redhead took it in his own trembling hands and slipped the pitiful ring into the other’s finger.
Then they both smiled. And sealed the commitment with a kiss.
