Comments: Okay… what to say. Well, this is something I based on the bit of info I read that told Kao and Die both have glasses. So don’t kill me if it’s inaccurate^^ Hm, and this is again one of those fics that I just had to write down completely at the instant I started.
Morning’s Sleep
It’s always the mornings when one sleeps the best, but the cruel fact is that there is no such thing as a morning when you could sleep as long as you want to. That is if you’re working. Or if you happen to share a bed with someone who wakes up half an hour before you would be willing to leave the warmth of the bed. Especially when you’re sleeping peacefully near to the one you want to share your whole life with, in every meaning of the word, while that someone really wants to wake up too early.
As the alarm clock started its daily beeping, Die struggled to get out of the older man’s embrace. He grabbed the other’s arm and moved it away from around his waist and to his side, simultaneously rolling to the edge of the bed, almost managing to fall down to the floor. Usually Die as much loved and needed his sleep, but in the mornings he had worked hard to develop a habit of getting up 6:30 if they had to be at the studio around 8. He needed the one and half hours in his own opinion, and there was nothing to prove him otherwise.
Kaoru smacked a few times, trying to comprehend what was going on. This was all familiar to him, after all he had been sharing the same bed with the redhead for almost five years now. Still, he never got used to it for he wanted to sleep till 7 am. Half an hour might sound like a small thing, but when it came to the lead guitarist, he stubbornly had decided that he needed it to survive. Rolling to his back, he groaned annoyed, being bereaved of the warmth the blanket and his lover’s body provided.
Slowly, he managed to get up, only to see his lover disappear into the bathroom. His legs shaking a bit due to the sleepiness Kaoru got up, following the other, stopping in the doorway. He leaned against the doorframe, yawning widely before speaking.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing? Again.” He tried to open his eyes and blinked several times to focus his gaze on the redhead, who was currently standing in front of the mirror, fighting with his contact lenses.
“I’m putting my contact lenses on, as I have been doing almost every single morning for past ten years, and you have asked me that almost every single morning for past five years.” The answer came with a short sigh, as Die repeated the almost exact same words he had said almost every single morning for quite some time now.
Usually Kaoru only snorted at that and let it be, but this time he was determined to get this talked over, and to gain those extra 30 minutes of sleep he wanted to get in the mornings. Pursing his lips and still blinking to get the sleep from his eyes he frowned slightly, thinking for a clever reply.
“Why?” Not the best one possible, but it served for now. The redhead turned around, staring at the other man quite dumbly, arching a questioning eyebrow.
“Because I can’t see properly if I don’t use them?”
Kaoru growled rather annoyed and moved closer from the doorframe, steadying himself with his arms so he could struggle himself up to sit on the counter, just beside the sink. Again turning his sleepy gaze to his lover he went on.
“No, no. I mean, why don’t you use glasses.”
Now it was the redhead’s turn to sound slightly annoyed. He concentrated on finishing his task, since he still lacked the contact lens from his left eye, and stared straight at the mirror while answering shortly.
“Cause I’m an ugly geek with glasses.”
“No you’re not!” The older man wasn’t sleepy at all anymore, and sounded equally hurt as if someone had just insulted him. “Glasses just simply give an intellectual touch to one’s looks. I use glasses too sometimes.”
A soft smile appeared to Die’s face and he leaned close to press a quick kiss in the corner of the other’s mouth. He took a last glance at the mirror, obviously happy now that he had completed his mission, and grabbed a hairbrush instead.
“That’s only because you are intelligent. And those glasses suit you.”
Humming happily to himself the younger guitarist started to comb his red strands, keeping his eyes locked on the mirror. His hair was another thing he was quite fond of, and next to the obsession with contact lenses he used most of his time in the mornings with his hair until it looked good enough in his own opinion.
“You could get the operation.”
Kaoru’s voice cut through the silence and made the younger man startle slightly and turn towards the older one. The lead guitarist had tilted his head slightly, and now looked at the other, smiling slightly. He was obviously at least partly serious.
“Operation?” Die’s expression was pricelessly dumb, as he stared at the other questioningly. He simply didn’t see where the other was heading to, and he wasn’t even sure if he wanted to.
“Yeah, you know, the one with laser and such. You wouldn’t need glasses anymore.” The small smile never left the lead guitarist’s lips and he looked straight at his lover. The idea had somehow just popped into his mind, but he thought there was some sense in it too. After such an operation Die wouldn’t need glasses ever again, and it was a relatively small procedure with a high succeeding percentage.
Die didn’t seem too convinced though. “It’s expensive.”
“We have money.” Kaoru shrugged, still holding on to his idea.
A short silence followed as the redhead seriously tried to think about the operation. He had never even thought that might be possible, and so the thought struck him quite suddenly. Finally he raised his gaze to meet the other’s eyes.
“But I’m not sure if I want to.”
Kaoru smiled softly. He didn’t want to force the other to do anything against his will, but he still liked his own idea too much to let go just yet. So he tried to reason with the younger man. “It would save you the contact lenses too.”
“So you could sleep for extra twenty minutes?” The tone of Die’s voice was even slightly offended. For only twenty minutes of sleep his lover was willing to put him through some sort of operation. Although he knew it wasn’t a big one, it still sounded bad.
“Uhm, yeah.” The lead guitarist hung his head for a while, looking to the floor. He examined the tiles for some moments, before tilting his head to look at the younger man again. “But it would be easier for you too.”
The answer was an irritated sigh. “Come on, Kaoru, whenever we’re having an interview or photoshoot, which one of us uses the most time in getting ready?”
“I do.”
“And which one of us uses hell of a lot time to choose his outfits?”
“I do.”
“Which one of us combs his hair over and over again if it’s a bit windy even?”
At this point frustrated Kaoru threw his hands up in a gesture of giving up. “I do, but Die, this is unfair!”
The redhead shook his head disagreeing. “No, it’s not. You’re telling me I’m vain, but then it appears you’re the one taking care of your appearance more than I ever do.”
The older man couldn’t deny that those words were the truth, but his pride was too strong to just give in like that. He pushed his bottom lip forward slightly, pouting and trying to figure out a good argument. He had always been good at verbal things, why in hell couldn’t he beat the younger man in a simple argument like this?
“I’m not the one who makes us wake up 6:30 in the morning!” Kaoru tried weakly, still holding on to his pout.
Die smiled softly, moving closer to stand between the other’s legs that dangled over the counter’s edge. Sliding his arms around Kaoru’s waist he presented his next argument, still smiling. “You don’t have to wake up although I do.”
“But I do. I can’t sleep without you there.” The older man purposefully gave his voice a whining tone, and tried to look as miserable as possible. However, Die knew better than to be fooled by his lover’s adorable expressions, and leaned closer to initiate a tender kiss.
It worked, and soon Kaoru’s pout melted into a content smile, as he wrapped his arms around the other man. After the kiss broke Die staid where he was, their lips almost touching, looking deep into each other’s eyes. “We could go to sleep earlier in the evening?”
“I don’t wanna.” Came the instant reply from the lead guitarist. “I want to … talk with you.”
With a happy laugh Die quickly gave Kaoru a few soft pecks on his lips. “Believe me, I enjoy our ‘talks’ a lot too.”
Something in the older’s smile told that he now sensed a slight possibility for winning this argument, and he slid a bit closer to the other still, whispering his next argument. “So why couldn’t you just use the glasses? You’re cute with them, believe me.”
“Kaoru, we have talked about this.” Die’s voice was clearly admonishing, and he even knitted his eyebrows a bit.
Smiling apologetically the older man withdrew a few centimetres, still looking the other in the eye. “I know. Doesn’t still prevent me from trying, does it?”
The redhead’s expression told clearly that he thought his lover was impossible, and above all stubborn as hell. However, there was still a great amount of amusement and love mixed in the gaze he gave the other one. “Apparently not. Come on, we still need to get dressed.”
A smirk crossed Kaoru’s face and he tightened his hold on the other man while circling his legs around the other’s waist. “I’m too tired to walk. Carry me.”
Obediently Die lifted the older man up, steadying their balance before heading slowly towards the bedroom. “This won’t become a habit, you hear me?” He couldn’t help but to chuckle slightly, for he actually liked carrying the other surprisingly much.
“Okay.” Smiling contently, Kaoru rested his head against the younger’s shoulder, closing his eyes and enjoying the ride. After a short silence he opened his eyes halfway, looking into the distance and speaking up quite silently again. “But Die, the operation wouldn’t be too expensive…”
“Kao!”
“Alright, alright…” The older man decided to leave it at that, but silently he decided that he’d still solve this, no matter what. He needed his sleep in the mornings.
For it’s always the mornings when one sleeps the best.
