[fic] Kyuhyun/Zhou Mi – SJM – pork chops and other romantic overtures – Oneshot
Title: pork chops and other romantic overtures
Author:
fonulyn
Rating: PG
Pairing: Kyuhyun/Zhou Mi (ninjaing Sungmin, Donghae and Henry included)
Disclaimer: I own no one, only my dirty imagination.
Summary: Of pork chops, perfect boyfriends and Zhou Mi’s pretty ears.
Comments: OKAY. I wanted to write about Zhou Mi’s pretty ears (yes I know how it sounds, thank you). Then I saw the youtube clip where Kyuhyun supposedly picks Sungmin as a perfect boyfriend (I read it in the comments, I do not speak Chinese). I read the translation about the pork chops (yes I know everyone wrote about it already). And I was in a really bad mood so I needed fluff. This worked! \o/ They can be read as three separate drabbles or a sort-of-story, either way.
Kyuhyun has almost forgotten about the pork chops. Actually not only almost, he has forgotten about them, until Zhou Mi brings them up in the national radio. He seems happy while explaining the happenings, his eyes sparkling and his lips stretching into one of those sunny smiles that are damn close to blinding, and somehow Kyuhyun finds it hard to focus.
So he decides to do what he does the best: smile dopily while directing an admiring gaze at the ever-chattering Zhou Mi. He hopes dearly the audience will just think he is slightly retarded, instead of figuring out the real reason behind the expression. Cho Kyuhyun might be a lot of things, but he is not, under any circumstances, a love-struck fool.
Somehow he manages to get through the rest of the show, even if his thoughts mainly consist of pork chops. And Zhou Mi. Pork chops and Zhou Mi. Feeding pork chops to Zhou Mi. Any combination of the two, really. He can work with that.
After the show Kyuhyun admits to Zhou Mi that he almost forgot. But now, praise the Lord, he has been reminded of the incident. As if to celebrate that, they have pork chops that night. Partly because Zhou Mi thinks it’s a nice thing to re-visit the past after so many years. Partly because Kyuhyun is still thinking of pork chops and although he knows it’s not exactly either erotic or romantic to picture eating pork chops off your boyfriend’s skin, that is how far his imagination has gotten.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, really) they end up having their pork chops on normal plates. At first Kyuhyun just focuses on the food, but somewhere halfway through his fourth serving he remembers something. “What made you think of the pork chops again?” Kyuhyun asks offhandedly. He avoids looking at Zhou Mi, that might make him seem too curious. He is not, of course. He is just making conversation.
Zhou Mi dodges the question, answering with one of his own. “You know what they say about feeding someone?” He smiles sweetly as he cuts a piece of meat and offers it to Kyuhyun, bringing it close to his full lips.
Automatically, Kyuhyun takes the offered bite, and answers already mid-chew. “No.”
“It means you want to dominate them and own them,” Zhou Mi smirks. It’s a good look on him. (Though, Kyuhyun muses, pretty much anything is.) “It means you wanted me the moment you saw me.”
It takes a moment for the words to process. “Shut up. That is nonsense.” Kyuhyun gripes. Wordlessly he spears a piece of pork on his own plate and before Zhou Mi can say anything further, stuffs it into his mouth. Zhou Mi’s eyes sparkle delightedly as he chews on the bite.
Zhou Mi actually has the manners to swallow his food properly before he chirps out his response. “Does this mean you want to own me?”
Kyuhyun snorts. It is incredibly hard to hold back a happy smile. “I already do.”
**
It’s not exactly anything new for Kyuhyun to walk into their shared hotel room to find Zhou Mi sitting on his bed instead of his own. It’s not uncommon for him to take up most of the free space with his long limbs, either. It is, however, quite rare to see his lips twisted into a disapproving (but rather pretty) frown.
At first Kyuhyun ignores that. He knows Zhou Mi well enough, he will hear what it’s about rather sooner than later. He watches how Zhou Mi’s fingers twitch in his lap for a second, how he shifts and straightens his shoulders, obviously preparing himself. And soon enough, he speaks up.
"Why did you choose Sungmin as the perfect boyfriend?" Zhou Mi pouts a little bit, looking at Kyuhyun reproachfully. He tries, at least. In reality he just manages to look absolutely adorable with his pursed lips and sideways glances.
Kyuhyun snorts. “Because he is the model boyfriend?” He shrugs a little and steps closer until he can plop down on the bed right next to the gangly Chinese. Zhou Mi is refuses to look at him but he doesn’t move away when long arms sneak around his waist. “Besides, Mimi.” Kyuhyun leans in until his lips brush the side of Zhou Mi’s neck. “You are the perfect girlfriend.”
“Oh Kui Xian!”
Kyuhyun laughs and tries to dodge but this time he doesn’t manage to avoid the hard slap on the side of his butt. It stings but that only makes him laugh harder when he pins Zhou Mi down against the mattress to tickle him until they’re both gasping for air through their gigglesnorts.
“You don’t need to be the perfect boyfriend,” Kyuhyun gets out somewhere in the midst of all the laughing, “as long as you are my boyfriend.”
He doesn’t care how mushy that sounds.
**
Kyuhyun knows he is not the perfect boyfriend either, not by any standards. Actually, he doesn’t even understand how Zhou Mi still looks at him like he is something amazing. All he does is game and eat. Sleep, maybe, and game some more. Shouldn’t a perfect boyfriend dig out a fancy romantic side from time to time? Granted, he has followed Zhou Mi on several shopping expeditions and he ends up ignoring his games more and more often in the favour of a certain Chinese person.
Still, Kyuhyun thinks he should try a bit more and do something nice. Even if only once a century. He isn’t exactly sure if he has thought this through properly when he finds himself sitting on Sungmin’s bed, explaining his dilemma to him. Sungmin is, after all, the perfect boyfriend and who would be better at giving advice than him?
Truthfully, Sungmin only needs to think about it for a split-second, before he gives his advice. “You need to compliment him more!” He gives an eloquent explanation too, but Kyuhyun doesn’t really listen. He is too busy freaking out inwardly and trying to figure out how do you compliment someone.
Later, when it’s only Kyuhyun and Zhou mi, and they’re sitting on the couch next to each other, Kyuhyun tries to work up the nerve to say something. Or more, tries to come up with something to say. Complimenting someone? He knows nothing of that. Every single time he has given a compliment before it has been a rip-off from a drama he has watched, or some godawful pick up line.
He feels like he is trapped in a bad movie, and someone forgot to write his lines in the script. He has nothing.
“You have really… pretty ears,” he finally blurts out. Way to go, Kyuhyun, is the immediate response in his own brain. Followed closely by the blush he tries very, very hard to cover. The first person to mention it out loud will be beheaded, he decides inwardly.
Zhou Mi looks surprised, and not quite as pleasantly so as Kyuhyun had hoped. He doesn’t look offended, no. He just looks… well, surprised. “…ears?” Zhou Mi asks slowly, as if double checking he got it right and the compliment didn’t get lost in translation. He even repeats it in Chinese for good measure.
Kyuhyun can only blush, hard this time. He feels like his head might actually explode. “Uh-huh.” He nods sternly. What else is there to do after digging one’s own grave but take it like a man?
“Oh.” Zhou Mi falls silent, considering Kyuhyun from large, curious eyes. Finally he breaks out in a bright smile. “Thank you! I suppose.”
It’s a way better response than Kyuhyun has dared to hope for. Especially when Zhou Mi leans in to thank him with a soft kiss. This he knows how to do and he can’t help but heave a happy sigh into the contact. Back on familiar ground, finally. It was already scary as hell to venture out in the first place. His fingers tangling in the soft strands of Zhou Mi’s hair is sort of comforting, a hot slide of mouth on mouth distracting him from his failed attempts at romance.
Kyuhyun thinks life is pretty good. Until he hears the giggles from the doorway. He whips around, fast enough to nearly tumble off the couch.
“…pretty ears,” Henry repeats, laughing. Donghae is practically hanging off him, giggling into the plaid shirt Henry is wearing. “Oh god Kyuhyun. Ears.”
Kyuhyun frowns. “But they are pretty,” he mumbles defiantly. It earns him another kiss.

I actually thought about writing something about the whole Sungmin being a perfect boyfriend too x) But idk, I think you could clearly see that he was uncomfortable with the situation and because the fans were screaming Sungmin's name and the host even said that why are the fans shouting name, should Kyuhyun pick Sungmin, so Kyuhyun just... said "okay, Sungmin then". So I'm sure he was longing to say Zhou Mi XD *delusional*

Okay, that pretty much melted my brain and was my favourite part of the whole fic because... I'm weird. But I loved it. And uh, is that actually true? XD Because I have the biggest thing ever for feeding some people.
I even fed candy to my ex because I thought it was nice. I'm forever a creep XDBut yaaaaaay, this whole thing ♥ Qmi is just meant for silly, cute fluff. It always feels like it could actually happen and not just be fiction. *runs away*

The pork chop story is beyond adorable! I can't stop squealing over it! QMi is truly a perfect epitome of cuteness! <3
And I was honestly wondering, if Sungmin wasn't a part of the new SJM, will the audience scream Sungmin's name when Kyuhyun was asked? And what would he say as his answer? XD I'm truly curious hahaha
Love this very much!! <3 <3<3

Ah, but this was so cute! Sometimes it felt like the scenes were a little disjointed (did you write this fic over a longer period of time?), and there was one paragraph break that struck me as a little jarring—
imo it would flow better if you took the last line of the top paragraph and turned it into the first sentence of the next paragraph. That line's more connected to the ideas in that next paragraph, anyway.
While I'm giving concrit—if I've mentioned this to you before, I'm sorry, but you might want to keep an eye on your adverb usage. The way I learned to write is that adverbs should never be used when the perfect verb would do instead. For example: "Kyuhyun stood idly on the sidewalk" vs. "Kyuhyun idled on the sidewalk." See how that second sentence..."pops?" It has more oomph, it uses less words, and it allows the verb to do the work, which is what a verb should be doing anyway. Of course, adverbs have their place, and sometimes you just can't get around them, but many times I think you could remove them from your writing or find a stronger/more accurate verb instead. It would strengthen your writing, imo, so maybe you should consider it! (But of course, all my suggestions are only suggestions and feel free to ignore anything I say ever.)
Anyway. Sungmin probably would be the perfect boyfriend, tbqh. I mean, he's perfect at anything he sets his mind to, so.
As if to celebrate that, they have pork chops that night. — Oh gosh, I can totally see this happening. Why are they so cute omg ;_;
Ears, asd;lja;erar XD Kyubb's fail is always so endearing. I love how Zhou Mi just rolls with it, and how Kyu sticks it out instead of trying to be like "NO I MEANT...SOMETHING BESIDES EARS, YOU HEARD WRONG :<." and trolling Donghae, ahahahah.
Stay awesome, bb, and good luck on your finals!!
