Title: Beating as One
Author:
fonulyn
Rating: PG
Pairing: Die/Kaoru
Disclaimer: I own no one, only my dirty imagination.
Summary: Even every single person Die has ever met, has their own rhythm. He can tell his friends apart from each other without even seeing them, simply because he knows the way they move, the way they speak, the way they live, all in a regular interval. Die has always been addicted to rhythms. But there is nothing that fascinates him more than the regular beating of Kaoru’s heart.

fonulyn: This is kinda fluffy romantic but then again, I don’t think it comes as a surprise to anyone who knows me at all *laughs* It’s been ages since I wrote D/K properly and this is just a drabble too, but I thought I’d share since I liked how it turned out :) I hope you enjoy it too!

Beating as One
There is a certain rhythm to everything, that’s probably the only thing Die is absolutely certain of. He has never minded that he’s labeled as the rhythm guitarist of the band, since in the end, what would be more important than that? Everything comes down to it, to the always changing and always moving rhythm of life. Die has always loved that, allowed the beat to invade his senses until he gets lost in the pace of the moment, unique to each and every second of life.
Even every single person Die has ever met, has their own rhythm. He can tell his friends apart from each other without even seeing them, simply because he knows the way they move, the way they speak, the way they live, all in a regular interval. Familiar and yet changing, slight variations appearing in every new cycle. Kaoru once told Die that his fascination by different rhythms is weird, that he had never met anyone who would put such weight on small things like that. “You should’ve become a drummer if you love rhythm that much,” the older man had said more than once, this certain teasing edge to his words. And Die only smiles. He nearly became one anyway.
Die has always been addicted to rhythms. But there is nothing that fascinates him more than the regular beating of Kaoru’s heart. Especially at a moment like this, their limbs entangled and their bodies twined, skin on skin and lips on lips, hands running over every curve in a sensual dance. Die loves the moment when he can sink his teeth into Kaoru’s skin, on the very spot where neck meets shoulder. Then, he can always hear it. Steady, yet turning quicker every second. Kaoru’s heartbeat. He allows it to pierce his senses, the same as the older man’s scent fills him and surrounds him, makes him feel that the line between them is blurring until there are not two, but one being left.
For a moment it almost feels as if his own heart isn’t beating at all, like it has stopped in his chest, silent. Until he realizes that his heart isn’t silent, it’s beating steady and strong, in the same rhythm as Kaoru’s. Their heartbeats are merging into one, until neither of them knows which beat belongs to whom. It’s almost as if the same blood is pumping through their veins, moved by the neverending beat of their hearts.
It almost makes Die startle when the sudden realization hits him. Kaoru’s rhythm isn’t quite Kaoru any longer. Neither is his own rhythm what it used to be. Somewhere, along the years, the two started to mix, the waves interfering until they matched. Their own unique sequence.
Two hearts beating as one.
