Comments:
[livejournal.com profile] seinen_no: Well, this one's kinda special. It is the first longer Die/Tosh story we wrote and I do like it. It's all cliché and even has (the very hated) flirty Tosh in skirts there. Yet, give it a try and you will see that it's not all as it seems and I (we) hope that you like the story nonetheless. We've always had a thing for the biggest clichés, took them and made them our own and I personally am fond of most of our stories. And I am aware how selfish that now sounds XD Anyway, before I'm babbling too much, I'm saying goodbye and really hope you enjoy this!

[livejournal.com profile] fonulyn: Re-reading the story was hard for me, personally, since it’s been longer since we wrote it and it made all these emotions go through me again. Partly because I’m tired and on the edge otherwise, but much of it was the story too. It might not be the best work we’ve written but it’s still special, in its own way, and I hope you’ll enjoy it :)

NOTE: This one is a long oneshot. Since it was originally posted in one part, we wanted to post it all at once now too. So normally this would be posted in two parts. But hopefully you don’t mind! This was originally written for Jrock Big Bang and was originally posted here with the amazing, pretty fanart made for the story by [livejournal.com profile] moonlight_chaos! Do check that out.

And feel free to add our journal if you like the stories!
Plus, the archive.

Never Judge a Book by its Cover

"The newbies are here!" somebody shouted and a bunch of boys, all dressed in school uniform, darted to the window. One boy, a tall, slender, black-haired one with soft features and curiously sparkling charcoal black eyes, pushed some of the others aside to get a better view. He was searching for somebody with his eyes, his full, joker-like shaped lips curving into a smile when he spotted him.

The new school year had just begun and everybody awaited the newcomers curiously. Toshiya, the black-haired boy, was only interested in one though. Daisuke. He had seen his picture on the application form and from that day on, he had been dying to see if the other one looked as good in nature as he had on the picture. Daisuke was easy to spot, seeing that his hair was dyed flaming red. He must be the son of somebody important, seeing that he was allowed to keep the color although it was forbidden to do that kind of alterations to the appearance in Green Acres, one of the most expensive boarding schools overseas.

"Let's welcome them traditionally," a small stout boy shouted, but was held back by Toshiya when he tried to push his way to the open window, a bucket filled with beer in his hands. "Wait a moment," he said grinning. "I want to welcome the redhead my way." With having said that, he turned around and rushed down the stairs to get into the yard.

Before leaving the building, he checked his appearance again, smoothed down his trousers and jacket and made sure that his hair was lying neatly, straight as if he hadn't treated at all although he had used a lot of gel and hairspray to make it appear like that. Then, he jogged outside, heading straight towards Daisuke who didn't even notice him at first. Only when a pair of soft lips landed on his own and a bold hand squeezed his rear, he beheld the black-haired boy who was already taking a step back again. "Welcome in Green Acres!"

The redhead's expression was priceless, something one didn't see that often. He looked like he was torn between being shocked, unbelieving and offended, his full lips turning into a frown. "Who the heck are you? And what the hell do you think you're doing?" He took a step to the side, a bit away from the other teenager like taking some safety distance between them.

"I'm Toshiya, your new room-mate!" the other boy replied, practically beaming. He didn't seem to notice anything weird in neither his nor his counterpart's reaction and just stepped closer again. "And I welcome you to this school. Let's be friends." He took a covert glance at the window where Koji, the guy with the beer bucket was waiting for his chance. In a friendly manner, Toshiya wrapped his arm around the redhead's shoulders, gently pushing him further to the side to let the other new students pass them by first.

"Friends don't exactly come at each other like that, I hope you realize that." Daisuke was still frowning, a deep wrinkle between his big, deep brown eyes. He shrugged though, allowing the other one to guide him further. This was his first day here anyways, and he needed someone to show him his room.

"Here, they do," the black-haired teen replied merrily and stopped their tracks for a moment when he saw Koji empty the bucket on one of the new entries. Everybody was roaring with laughter, so did Toshiya. "Actually, you owe me one now. I saved your precious clothes..." He used the moment to measure the redhead from the corner of his eyes, thinking it was a shame that he would have to change his cool designer jeans and sneakers to get into the very same uniform all of them had to wear.

The redhead noticed very well that Toshiya was practically checking him out and somewhere inside him, he couldn't help but to be nervous about it. He didn't let it show though, only flashed a confident grin. "What if I didn't want to be saved? Don't think too much of yourself."

That only made the other teen chuckle and slap his shoulder. "Of course. Something gorgeous like you doesn't need to be saved. It needs to be conquered," he stated, obviously unimpressed by Daisuke's confident appearance. Suddenly, he frowned though. "Don't you have luggage? We need to hurry a bit. In half an hour, there's the huge welcoming speech in the auditorium."

"Sure I have luggage." Die shrugged casually. "My suitcases were brought here already. I have to pick them up in the lobby or something." Truth to be told, he couldn't have cared less for some boring welcome-speech. He only had come to this school because his father had insisted, thinking it'd do good to him, and no one, literally, said 'no' to his father.

"Oh, then the caretaker will bring it probably." The black haired boy again moved them toward the huge building, hooking his arm with Die's in a friendly manner. "Cool then. Leaves us more time to get to know each other," he announced, practically dragging the other one up the stairs.

The redhead wasn't so sure if he wanted to find out what Toshiya had meant with 'getting to know each other', but he followed obediently nevertheless as there wasn't much of a choice if he wanted to see his new room. Besides, he would have to start living in the same room with this guy so he could as well try to get along with him. "Are there only two people in one room?"

"Yep," Toshiya nodded almost enthusiastically as he pushed the door open and bowed a bit to invite the other one. "After all, this is a first class boarding school." He grinned and then sighed deeply. "Only the beds are a bit too small for my taste. Not easy to get it on there properly."

"To what..?" Die arched an eyebrow, rolling his eyes and releasing a dry chuckle. "And with whom did you plan on getting it on here? The cleaning-lady?"

"No dear," the black haired teen shook his head, smirking widely. The look in his eyes alone was answer enough already, but he went on nevertheless. "Didn't you know that a boys only boarding school is the place where more butts get fucked than anywhere else?" He said those words like it was the most natural thing, as if everybody should have known it.

It almost made Die flinch but he managed to hold back in the end and appear casual. "I don't care how many butts get fucked here, mine isn't going to be one of those." He took a few steps in the room and opened the door of the single big closet to see if there was room for his clothes too. It appeared that several shelves were empty. Nodding contently, he closed the doors again, turning to see if there was anything else of interest in the room.

Toshiya watched him amusedly, not missing to check out his butt carefully when Die bent down to open the drawer of his nightstand. "Yours won't make an exception," he teased smirking. He was already convinced that he wanted the redhead and that he was the most gorgeous guy at this school. Of course shortly after him himself.

"It won't?" Die pursed his lips, turning to look at the other from over his shoulder. "Just watch. You'll take those words back in the end." He straightened, before plopping to sit on the bed he assumed was his since the other one was messy and had some clothes scattered on it.

Instantly, the black haired approached him, a wicked sparkle in his eyes. "You'll see," he purred and sat down beside the redhead uninvited. "But don't worry, I already made clear that you're mine, so the others won't hit on you... too bad." His lips were still curved in a smile as if he wasn't able to stop it.

"Yours?" The words made the redhead's eyes sparkle almost dangerously and he instantly stood up. "I don't belong to anyone, least of all to you." He couldn't help it, the whole conversation made him somewhat nervous, especially since the other boy was so secure and confident.

"Ah c'mon, don't be such a spoil-sport!" Suddenly, Toshiya jumped up and grabbed Die's hand, dragging him along. "Let's go to the welcoming. I will introduce you to the bunch and there's always some people to check-out."

Die growled slightly, but followed nevertheless to the big hall full of people. There, he would be safe at least, he thought. Toshiya probably wouldn't dare to hit on him like that in public or anything. But he was wrong since as soon as they had taken their seat somewhere on the side, the black haired boy wrapped his arm around his shoulders and winked at everybody who happened to look at them. Some of the boys were nodding, probably knowing Toshiya all too well.

Groaning annoyed, the redhead pushed the other's arm away, shifting a bit to get further from him. That kind of closeness was intimidating, made him feel uneasy and he had no idea how to react to it. The reaction caused Toshiya to roll his eyes, but he was still smiling his eternal smile. He just thought Die was shy, despite his quite cool and secure appearance. He decided to take it slower for the time being and pretended to listen to the boring speech, but didn't miss his chance to cast open glances at his sitting-neighbor.

Afterwards, Die was dragged into the big entrance hall, where the schedules of the classes hung on the wall and the redhead was introduced to some of the other students. Everybody eyed him curiously, asked him a lot of questions about where he came from and why he was there, but soon, Toshiya got bored and decided to cut it. "Enough now boys, leave a piece of him for me still." Grinning, he again grabbed Die's hand, announcing. "We will now seek some privacy in our room."

Die DEFINITELY didn't like how that sounded, but surrendered to his fate and followed his new roommate into the room they shared. Someone had actually brought Die's luggage there meanwhile and he released a small relieved sigh as he thought this gave him the chance to direct his attention to unpacking rather than to the bouncy boy he was with.

Toshiya just lolled on Die's bed, elbow propped on the mattress and his head based on his palm, following him with his eyes. His own bed was still too messy and he didn't feel like tidying. "You've got quite cool clothes," he remarked after some moments of silence, only to say something. Why on earth was Die just so quiet? He looked like more fun than he actually was. But Toshiya was certain that he would lure Die out of his shell soon.

"Thanks." Die shrugged a bit, but gave him a small smile. "Those won't be of any use for me here though since we need to wear those stupid uniforms anyways." He was piling the last clothes from his bag into the closet already.

"Nah, on free Sundays you can wear them. Then we are even allowed to go to town," the other one replied winking. "Those jeans make your butt look good." Shifting a bit, he got into a more comfortable position, leaning his back against the bed-head. "You should go to Takano. He can make the fucking uniform fit perfectly." As if to prove it, Toshiya got up on the bed, posing for the other one. Indeed, it was obvious that there had been some changes made to his uniform and it was undeniable that it fitted his slender yet strong form perfectly.

The redhead only gave him a short, disinterested glance though and then returned to sorting his belongings. "I will remember that. But it's not like I would have anyone to impress here by trying to look cool. So it doesn't matter that much." He had very well heard the remark considering his butt, but he chose to ignore it.

"That's the way to go!" Toshiya cheered. "No need to look too good. That's only meant for my eyes anyways."

"Shut up." Die shook his head, trying not to grin as there WAS something amusing in the conversation. "You make it sound like you bought me to be your roomie."

"Something like that," the other teen gave away winking. "At least I asked the tutor to arrange that for me."

This time Die looked honestly surprised, opening his eyes wide. "You did? Why?"

"I saw your picture," Toshiya answered honestly with a small shrug and finally plopped back down on the bed. "Together, we make the most gorgeous couple here on campus."

"COUPLE!?" Die almost shrieked, but then just quickly got a hold of himself again, swallowing to appear and sound more casual. "You have too high expectations. Just for your information, I go for girls."

"I don't mind," the black-haired teen waved aside with an annoyed hand-gesture. "Many say that at first. Just for your imagination, there's no girl here except for the cook who is fat and ugly. Sooner or later, you'll have certain needs and then I'm there." The grin was back on his face at an instant.

"You might be pretty but you're still far from looking like a girl." The redhead rolled his eyes theatrically. "I'll do quite okay without your help, thank you. I still have healthy hands."

"I could offer mine to help." There was seemingly nothing that could make Toshiya falter, nor drag him down. "And if you insist, I could too dress in a skirt. Did that once for drama class and without sounding arrogant, I make a better girl than many real ones."

"You're still lacking something pretty essential to be a girl," Die pointed out, looking more casual than he actually felt deep down inside. "Really, trust me. I don't want your hands, nor your butt."

The other boy looked almost offended, pouting. Theatrically, he brought his hands to his chest. "What's so good in tits? They're only in the way..." Pondering, he moved his hands a bit, rubbing his breast as if he was trying to imagine how it'd be to be equipped like a girl. "Does that mean you prefer the mouth then?" he suddenly asked, lifting his head to look at Die with a smirk tugging his lips.

For a short moment it left Die speechless, startled him slightly. But soon the secure smirk was back and he shrugged. "Maybe," he drawled. "But I don't want your mouth either."

"I see," Toshiya purred, nodding understanding. "So you're the kind who rather takes. Well, that's fine with me. I wouldn't mind getting a piece of your fine butt, nor your mouth..." He knew that he was plain annoying, but he also knew that he would get what he wanted before this semester was over. He always did!

"Screw you!" The redhead released a huge sigh, rolling his eyes and got up from the floor where he had been sitting thus far to store some of his belongings away into the small bedside closet. "I already told you, you won't get any."

"But it's so hard to screw myself," the black haired boy teased on, hardly able to suppress his chuckles by then. "And far less pleasurable than when somebody else does the job."

"Then go, look for some nice boy who doesn't mind getting intimate with you, and leave me alone." Die turned his head, looking the other teen straight in the eye. "I bet there's several easier cases here than me."

"Yeah, but it's not as much fun if they just throw themselves at me," Toshiya gave away. "And once I chose somebody, I will get him. Always!" He looked and sounded totally convinced, serious even. "My dad says I should learn to take what I want and fight for it."

"My dad says I should stick to my own decisions." The redhead shrugged. "And believe me, I've made up my mind. You're not going to get any that kind of fun from me."

"Your dad and my dad should get together and go bowling!" Toshiya laughed merrily. "And you should just give up. I win, you'll see." Slowly, he heaved himself off the bed. As it was late already and they had to get up too early in the morning for his liking, he just wiped the clothes off his bed and then began to strip, making sure to give Die a good view on what he just had declined.

Die caught himself staring at one point, but quickly averted his gaze again and began to change too so he could go to bed and try to sleep a bit. He wasn't sure how he'd be able to sleep in such a weird place, especially in the same room with someone like his new roommate. When he dropped his pants, the black haired boy whistled commendatory. "Pretty," he commented grinning and slipped under the covers because the room wasn't heated and it was cool inside without any clothes on. Yes, he had decided to sleep naked, thinking he should make it a habit from then on if only to intimidate his roomie or more to make him see what he was missing.

Die blushed slightly at the comment, but thankfully his room-mate didn't notice it and quickly he got dressed into something he could sleep in and then slipped under the covers. It didn't turn out to be as awkward as he had feared in the end, and he even slept well despite the odd place.

The next days Toshiya seemed to be determined to show him around at the school, dragging him everywhere and introducing him to everyone. It appeared like the tall black-haired boy knew everyone, and everyone looked up to him. Die couldn't even wonder why, as the other one had this natural, easygoing nature which made it easy to like him.

He couldn't deny that he liked Toshiya as well, but the constant attempts he made to hit on him were beginning to annoy. The other thing that was beginning to take its toll on Die was the lack of privacy and being in only male company all the time. He did seek the company of his hand to cure it, but somehow Toshiya managed to notice it and afterwards the mocking comments wouldn't stop.

Of course Toshiya made sure to offer him his help, practically inflicting himself on him, but when that had no effect on Die, the black-haired boy went over to plain mocking. Anybody else would have already dropped it, being disappointed, but the Toshiya seemed to have an endless source of enthusiasm when it came to hitting on Die. He seemed to be immune against the sometimes harsh repulse.

Still, he turned out to be a good friend too, always helped out when it came to homework, presentations and whatever school demanded from them. Very much to Die's surprise, Toshiya was a straight A student without putting much effort into his studies at all. It just came easy to him, like a God given inspiration.

He was getting a bit restless as he didn't seem to get any further when it came to the redhead though. He had tried everything so far, but maybe the other man just needed a small push. So one night, Toshiya was certain that Die was fast asleep, he sneaked into bed next to him, pushed aside the blanket and first only pressed his palm against the other's groin to see how needy the other's body really was.

The first reaction was a small, sleepy noise that escaped Die on its own accord and he shifted a bit in his place. Apparently, he was a deep sleeper and even when Toshiya moved his hand tentatively, Die didn't wake up. He even moved a bit into the touch, subconsciously wanting more of it. Suddenly though, he stirred, making an unpleased noise as he was dragged away from the peaceful sleep. He blinked for a moment, before finally realizing what was happening and who was so close to him. Releasing a highly undignified yelp he practically shoved the other boy to the floor, jumping to sit up on the bed.

"Ouch!" Pouting, Toshiya rubbed his behind. The sudden movement had just caught him off guard. He had been so close to his goal already. Only a few seconds longer and there would've been no way for Die to resist him anymore. "No need to get violent..."

"I'm not getting violent!" Die couldn't help it and automatically raised his voice, his cheeks a bit flushed due to the agitation. "YOU are the one who got into MY bed and started MOLESTING me!"

"I only thought you were in the need to let off some steam. You haven't done anything in longer and I'm afraid it'll just rot off or become useless," the other boy retorted, the smile already back on his face. "C'mon. Don't tell me you didn't like it. Just close your eyes and I do the rest. You can even imagine I'm a girl..."

"Like that would help!" Die pouted, folded his arms across his chest and glared at the other one who was still on the floor. "You just keep your hands off me, and we're both happy."

"If I keep my hands off you, we both won't be happy at all." Toshiya mirrored his actions, frowning seriously. "What is so fucking wrong with me? I am offering something very special here and that even without wanting anything in return. You should be grateful instead of angry."

"Grateful?" the redhead asked disbelieving. "Come on. I TOLD you I don't go for guys. It means I don't want some guy to molest me when I'm asleep, nor when I'm awake. Can't you just get into your thick head that I'm not interested?" While speaking, Die began to feel a bit uneasy though and it wasn't because of what had just happened, but because he wasn't so sure what he was talking about anymore. Would it make such a big difference if it was a guy touching him instead of a girl? Quickly he shook his head to get rid of the thought.

"That pretty boner in your pants speaks a whole different language," the black-haired teen retorted with pursed lips. Slowly, as gracefully as possible, he got off the floor and went over to his bed. "Okay then. I won't touch you in your sleep anymore," he promised, deliberately limiting his promise only to this one situation.

"Thank you." Die rolled his eyes. Releasing a sigh, he slipped back under the covers again, intending on getting some more sleep. It turned out to be too hard though. His thoughts simply kept him awake and he was lying on his back, staring at the ceiling for what felt like an eternity. He wasn't so sure about anything anymore and just tried to calm down the nervousness that had taken over him.

After that incident, Toshiya held back with his obvious advances and settled for only some mild teasing whenever they were in the showers or had physical education. Die already thought he had given up, but remained suspicious. On a Friday evening, he returned to their room late after attending a soccer game of his class. When he opened the door, he stopped his tracks though, staring at the bed.

It was definitely Toshiya, wasn't it? The black-haired boy was lolling on the bed. His face was decently painted, dark coal accentuating his eyes while his full lips were dark red, making him appear like a girl. He had obviously taken a lot effort in pinning up his hair in a girly manner too while his body stuck in a perfectly fitting dress that ended shortly above his knee. Smiling, he stretched his legs a bit and turned to look at the redhead. "Hi Die. I didn't expect you back already," he lied without blushing and shifted so that the skirt rode up his thigh a bit.

For a long moment Die was unable to move a single muscle, unable to blink, as the sight held him captivated. The other boy had the longest, most gorgeous legs he had ever seen, and his painted face was nearing perfection, in lack of other words. Finally, he managed to close his eyes though, tearing his gaze away from the sight and shaking his head a bit. "What the fuck are you doing? Tell me there's an explanation for this!" They had grown to be something like friends, and Die just took on the same tone he used when Toshiya had done something dumb.

"Of course there is!" Toshiya nodded, but then remembered that he was trying to seduce the other teen and thus should hold back a bit with his bouncy self. So he swung his legs to the bedside, not missing the chance to present them in the most appealing way. Slowly, he approached the redhead, swaying his hips like a girl. "I am your wet dream coming true."

"No, Tosh." Die didn't make a move, only sighed a bit and shook his head again. "We've been through this, haven't we? Dressing up like a girl doesn't make you one." He couldn't deny though that Toshiya looked stunning, more beautiful than many girls even, definitely.

Smirking, the tall black-haired boy lifted one of his naked legs, basing his foot on the wall. "Try me." Purring, he ran his hand along the smooth skin from the shinbone to his thigh. "It's all smooth." With a deep sparkle, he added. "I waxed them." Slowly, he licked across his lush bottom lip in a seductive manner. Now if that didn't get the redhead hot, he had no idea what would.

Outwardly, Die remained totally calm. There was no change in his casual expression, in the way he was looking at the other one with only mild interest. Inwardly though, he was screaming, his heart beating and he even scared himself as he hadn't thought he could react this forcefully. He still managed to suppress it all, stepping past Toshiya into the room and averted his gaze. "Forget it Tosh. I told you I don't want your butt. Nor your mouth, nor your hands. Give up already."

This time, Toshiya was truly demotivated. He had no idea what else he could try. He had been so sure that this appearance would make Die forget the negligible fact that there was something missing in his upper body while he had a little too much between his legs. Sighing, he dropped down on his bed and fumbled for a pack of cigarettes he used to hide under the mattress, not caring for the strict forbiddance. Usually, he managed to get away if a teacher happened to control their rooms and smelled the smoke. Maybe he had really been wrong and Die was straight to the bone? One could practically see the thoughts run through his head, the slight frown showing that he had no clue what to do or to say.

Die even felt a tad bit sorry for him, as he truly liked the other boy, a lot, but as a friend as he at least told himself. It was probably that feeling which made him sit down on the edge of Toshiya's bed and tentatively place a hand somewhere on his back. "Look, I'm sorry. It'd be a lot easier if you would just believe what I say..."

"It would be even more easy if you would finally see how fucking hot I am," Toshiya retorted pouting. He even shifted away from the redhead, turning his back on him half-heartedly. Truth was, he had been so consumed by the thought to get into Die's pants that he had totally overlooked how he had fallen for him too. Die was humorous and fun to hang out with and as long as there had been a slight chance somewhere that he would succeed, Toshiya hadn't been willing to give up. But right at that moment, he had run out of ideas and thus was frustrated. The next day, he would probably be back to his usual self and have another plan cooking though.

"I do see it." Die chuckled a bit, pulled his hand back and after hesitating a moment, he set both his hands on his lap, not knowing what else to do. "Couldn't we just... be the friends we are?" he suggested carefully, his eyes turned down in the pretence to be interested in the pattern of the carpet suddenly.

The words elicited a deep sigh from the other boy and a small, almost unnoticeable nod. "I guess so." He certainly wouldn't promise not to try anything anymore, but as for the time being, he could deal with 'just' being friends. Suddenly though, he tilted his head and smiled brightly again. "So you think I'm hot?"

"Come on, who wouldn't?" The redhead rolled his eyes. Seeing the other one smile made a small grin appear on his own lips as well. He couldn't help it, seeing Toshiya in such a good mood always managed to cheer him up as well.

"But apparently that doesn't help me with getting into your pants, does it?" The smile didn't vanish from Toshiya's face and the sparkle returned to his eyes. "You are just too stubborn to admit that I'm the most gorgeous, seductive, beautiful thing you've ever met."

"Even if you were, it doesn't change the fact that I'm straight. Hear me, S-T-R-A-I-G-H-T." Die laughed, shaking his head and slapped the other's shoulder before getting up from the bed. "I'm sorry Tosh, but I still decline any offer you have in store for me." He was grinning, not disturbed by their talk nearly as much as he had been in the beginning. It was somehow even flattering how Toshiya was always hitting on him and they both knew how to waltz these conversations back and forth.

The only thing that bothered him was that Die wasn't sure about his own feelings anymore. Just a moment ago, when Toshiya had looked so... defeated, like he was giving up, it hadn't made Die feel good. He should've celebrated, as it had appeared like the times of sexual hints and some mild molesting were over, but instead he had almost panicked, had FEARED that the other boy might've really given up on him. That feeling disturbed Die since he didn't know how to explain it to himself the way he wanted to.

"You're now going to bed without kissing me goodnight?" The talk had brought the spirits back to Toshiya and he simply didn't want to give up, even if it meant to never get anywhere. It had become a game to him, a profession and he was determined not to stop as long as the redhead didn't threaten to break their friendship. Batting his eyelashes in a girly manner, he pursed his lips and closed his eyes.

Surprising even himself, the redhead turned around, leaned down and smashed their lips together. It was over almost as soon as it had begun and Die pulled back before it had the chance to evolve into a deeper kiss, a real one. But already the mere touch of lips on lips had made his heart beat faster and he barely managed to flash Toshiya a bright grin before turning towards his own bed again. "Good night."

Stunned, the black-haired boy's jaw dropped a few inches. Incapable to reply anything, he only nodded. Like hypnotized, he brought the tips of his fingers to his lips, not believing what just had happened. Die had really kissed him! After the first shock was gone and his heart started beating again, he got up on his slightly shaky legs, mumbling something about washing off the paint to get ready for bed and hurriedly left the room. If a small peck like that had such a major effect on him, what would a real kiss do then?

Die was grateful for the moment alone and closed his eyes tight as the other teen left the room. That hadn't been the intention, something like that wasn't supposed to happen. Still, he couldn't bring himself to regret it, not really, as the remembrance of Toshiya's lips on his own made a wave of warmth run through his being. Quickly, he got ready for bed, slipping under the covers while he was still alone in the room, pretending to be already asleep when his roommate returned.

For a long moment, Toshiya stood in the dark room and just looked at the figure on the other bed, lost in thoughts. He knew it was stupid to interpret a peck like that as something special, as the proof that Die was changing his mind and considered the idea of getting something on with him. Yet, it was nice to imagine it. With that thought, Toshiya climbed into his bed as well, pulled the blanket over his head and closed his eyes, determined to treasure the feeling the other one's lips had left on his own.

That night neither of them slept well. Both simply had too much to think about, too much to go through again and again in their minds. Still, the next morning they didn't talk about what had happened, just went on like every single morning thus far. Something had chanced though, maybe in the air, maybe in the way the redhead glanced at the black-haired teen when they walked side by side to get some breakfast. No matter what it was, they didn't address the topic with a single word.

It was a free day basically, at least there were no classes. The only duty they had were some courses which they had to choose. For the first time since Die had entered the school, Toshiya was grateful that he was attending drama class while the redhead was having a baseball course. It gave him the necessary time to gather his strength and think about a way to find out if that small kiss had just been an accident or if that had meant Die was slowly changing his mind. Being the positive thinking, merry person he was, he had come to the conclusion that he WANTED to believe it was the latter and he certainly wanted to try the other.

Die was grateful for the time apart from his roommate as well, since he needed the time, being too confused right now. It felt good to just forget about everything for a while, simply get lost in the game and let the sports-class become his world for a short moment. He gave everything that day, only trying to escape his mixed up thoughts and after he returned to his room he felt pretty much exhausted but more peaceful than before.

Toshiya was already there when he entered the room and greeted him with one of his bright smiles. "Hey, my strong, manly-man sports guy," he winked, peeking above the manga he was just reading. Without giving Die the time to answer, he went on. "You know, it's kinda bad that I can't watch you sweat and run. I bet you look darn sexy on the field in those pretty tight pants."

"You could watch if you had chosen that class yourself," Die pointed out, not even bothering to blush at the words anymore as he had grown to be used to them. "But you're not the type." He plopped down on his bed, falling down until he was lying on his back without moving a single muscle.

"No. I prefer sweating in other situations," the black-haired teen waved aside. "Besides, what sense would it make to join the class when I would have to run around too and then wouldn't get the chance to take a good look at your firm behind?" Die was right, he certainly wasn't up for sports and only did the necessary, already whining whenever they had physical education.

"It's not like we run all the time there, you know." Die chuckled, still not moving an inch. He had closed his eyes, just concentrating on relaxing. "And besides, wouldn't it make you sad to watch when you know that's all you'll ever get, to watch?"

"You know, that kinda hurt!" Toshiya nodded to emphasize his words, but was smiling nevertheless. "And no, it would only make me more determined and give me inspiration to finally get what I want." He already had a plan in mind and after a short pause asked pretended casually. "What do you think about Ryo? I was thinking about asking him out next Friday." It was only pretence of course to see how Die reacted, but that the redhead didn't need to know.

"Ask him out?" Die even bothered to open his eyes, turning his head to be able to look at his friend. "I don't like him." He just shrugged a bit, not commenting on it further. The truth was that he didn't really have anything against Ryo, but the thought that Toshiya would go out with him made a highly unpleasant shudder course along his spine.

"Not?" Toshiya hitched one of his well-plucked eyebrows and pursed his lips. "I think he's quite nice and he is hot too." The reaction from the other one had made a certain pleasant feeling fill his stomach although he didn't allow himself to cheer already. "On Friday, I will see how nice actually."

"So he's interested in you?" The redhead frowned a bit, because he hadn't noticed something like that. Usually he was pretty good in reading people, but maybe he had been too absorbed in himself to see anything lately. "You hoping that he'll spread his legs for you then?"

"Depends awfully on my mood," the black-haired boy stated theatrically. After all, he hadn't chosen drama class for no reason. "Either that or then I bend over for him. But one thing's for sure," he turned his head and grinned at his roommate, "he's definitely interested." With a casual shrug, he added. "Who wouldn't be?"

Die just shrugged at that, not bothering to answer. But there was still the frown on his face as the mere thought of Ryo laying his hands on Toshiya caused a highly unpleasant twitch in the redhead's stomach. He didn't want to show it though, trying to appear only mildly interested. "Does it mean I will have to figure out something to do and keep out of our room or will you entertain yourselves elsewhere?" He didn't even know why he kept asking, as it was like twisting the knife in the wound.

"Good that you mention it." Toshiya turned on his side to be able to look at the redhead without problems. "It'd be so nice if you could stay away for some time. Our room is so neatly separated from the others and this wing is the least controlled," he explained. It was true, the tutors hardly ever came there to bother them. "And Ryo's roomie isn't really cooperative." He was just babbling what came to his mind, because in reality, he hadn't even asked the other student out, nor intended to do so. But if Die remained this disinterested, he would have to walk the talk no to lose his credibility. At least he was really sure that Ryo wouldn't mind going out with him, nor taking some action. The only problem was that this wasn't what Toshiya wanted...

"Alright, I will see if I come up with something to amuse myself with." Die sighed, hoping that it would be interpreted as reluctance to leave the room, because he didn't want to show how much the whole thing really bothered him. He wasn't jealous, goddamnit! Opening his eyes finally, he looked straight at his friend. "You will then owe me one though."

"Oh, but you know you can have everything from me." The answer bore an ambiguous undertone and came along with a meaningful wink. "I suggest you ask Tak for one of his Playboys and seek the peace of one of the toilets," he added teasing. Why on earth was Die so disinterested? The only thing missing was that he offered his own bed for God's sake!

"Fuck you. I know how to take care of myself." The redhead chuckled, heaving himself up into a seated position. "And now I desperately need something to eat. See ya later." It was only a pretence to get out of the room though as he simply needed a moment alone right now.

"Chocolate makes happy!" Toshiya yelled after him when the door was already closed. What had he gotten himself into? Now he would really have to ask Ryo. Maybe he should tell him the truth and beg him to play along and help him to make Die jealous. But wasn't it impossible to make somebody jealous when he wasn't interested in the first place? Although it wasn't late, he decided to get to bed and solve this problem while sleeping.

Die actually took the advice and got himself some chocolate, destroying it before going back to the room he shared with his friend. He was still restless, didn't like the pictures his imagination provided when he even thought about Toshiya with Ryo, with anyone else. Still he went to bed, trying to calm down and to get some sleep. It was a few days until Friday, maybe he'd calm down before that?

To make the illusion perfect that Toshiya finally had given up on getting Die into bed, he dropped all his flirting. There was no gentle teasing, no trying to sneak a peek at the redhead when he took a shower or changed his clothes after school. It took a lot of self-control from the black-haired boy, but he managed surprisingly well, always having the greater purpose in mind. That was something like his last hope to get a reaction from his room mate.

He didn't even expect much, but only one word that the other one didn't want him to go out with Ryo, just something, would be sufficient to make him stop and get back to where they had been before. Still, Die seemed to be unimpressed and when Wednesday came, Toshiya went to Ryo to ask him out. He had decided against telling him the truth and rather only told the other boy they could go and watch a movie together. Something that wouldn't make him believe he had any kind of sexual interest since Toshiya really didn't want to raise false hopes nor did he want to hurt Ryo's feelings.

Up until that point, Die had hoped that Toshiya had just been all talks and wasn't really going to actually let deeds follow. When his roommate announced that he had finally asked Ryo out though, it took Die all his willpower to remain focused and still he didn't completely manage to cover his reaction. Besides, he had noticed that he actually missed being in the center of Toshiya's attention. He missed the long glances, the looks he had always received, missed the teasing words and little compliments about how good he looked or something. Yet, he wasn't willing to admit it out loud, not although it was getting harder every minute that brought Friday closer.

Inwardly, Toshiya felt like crying. For the first time in his life, he had gotten himself into something he really felt uncomfortable with. He even considered asking his father for advice, but although his old man knew about his sexual orientation, it was highly visible for anybody as he had never bothered to hide it, he didn't dare to in the end. So he grit his teeth and did what his father would have told him anyways, get through it without losing his face. Still, Toshiya was nervous when Friday came and Die still hadn't mentioned anything. Quite the contrary, in the morning before they had left their room, he had even told him he would keep away as long as he wanted. What kind of jealousy was that?

Inwardly, Die was reacting exactly as Toshiya had wanted him to though, since he was practically burning with jealousy, getting annoyed every time he saw even a glimpse of Ryo. He couldn't help it, the closer the date came, the more reluctant he was to let Toshiya go through with it. He kept on telling himself that it was none of his business, that his roommate was allowed to date whom he wanted to. Still, it didn't help him let go of the boiling jealousy inside of him. He managed to hold it down, somehow act as if it didn't exist, but finally he couldn't do it anymore.

It was a moment after physical education which was the last lesson for that day and they happened to be in the same group, Toshiya and he. Both of them seemed to be somewhat slow in changing their clothes and they ended up being the last persons in the dressing room. The moment when Toshiya slid off his shirt, Die's eyes happened to travel that way and in the end he was no longer able to avert his gaze. It was like that single moment broke the trance he had been in, made him realize consciously how jealous this whole deal made him. And before Toshiya realized what was happening he was already pinned against one of the lockers, Die's mouth pressing over his. This time it wasn't any chaste peck on the lips, but a real, deep kiss.

Toshiya's brain was too slow to realize what was happening nor that this certainly wasn't a dream. Only when he felt Die's tongue enter his mouth, brush along his own and practically take his breath away, he landed back to reality. Suddenly, everything, the slight smell of sweat that was mixing with Die's pure scent, his soft lips against his own, the way how his body was pinning his back against the cool metal of the lockers, became all too clear and made his heart race.

Fearing, the other boy could pull away, Toshiya wrapped his arms around his neck, holding him close. His eyes tightly shut, he simply enjoyed the sensations the passionate kiss elicited in him from the tingling feeling in his stomach as if there was a whole flock of butterflies trapped inside, to the heat that was gathering in the lower part of his body. Even if Die would go on as usual afterwards, this was enough to make him try even harder than ever before. This was the sign he had been waiting for and he was already yearning for more.

He wasn't the only one as Die simply tilted his head to deepen the kiss even further, greedy for everything he could get. The more he got the more he wanted and he found himself incapable of breaking the kiss even when his lungs were burning in the need of oxygen. The whole moment made his head spin, made him go through feelings he had no words for and all he could think of was how Toshiya was filling his all senses, from his scent to the feeling of his body against his own. When he finally pulled back from the kiss, they were both seriously out of breath, only capable of panting for the time being.

The black-haired boy still held his arms around Die's neck, gazing into his eyes with a mixture of disbelief and entreaty. Wanting to say something, he opened his mouth but couldn't get any word out. For once, he had no idea what to say.

A classmate entered the room and made both of them shift further from each other. Feeling caught, as if they had done something forbidden, Toshiya blushed furiously, incapable to control the reaction nor to think straight at that moment. Of course everybody knew about him and his puppy love for Die, but right at that moment, he was too confused to sort his thoughts.

The color of Die's cheeks was matching his hair color as he was blushing deeply, not so sure if that he had acted wisely. There was no turning back anymore though. Quickly they got dressed, and Die was the one who broke the silence afterwards. "I - We ..." The thought didn't get any more coherent than that though, and he just cast a sideways glance at a couple of their classmates who had come into the room, at that moment annoying the hell out of Die.

Toshiya still had no idea what to say to that all. Something inside him was cheering, and he probably would've done a victory dance if Die hadn't acted so disinterested towards him the whole week before. Just when he was about to at least try to voice his thoughts, Ryo passed them by, smiling brightly. "See ya later Tosh! What was it, seven?"

That made Die's head snap up as he had lowered his gaze to the floor a moment ago, and now he looked at Toshiya from slightly widened eyes, shaking his head barely noticeably. "Don't..." His voice was only a choked whisper, and he had no idea if it'd have any effect anyways.

Without taking his eyes off the redheaded teen, Toshiya spoke up. "I'm sorry, Ryo, but I think I have to pass." He heard the sigh leaving his class-mate, but raised his hand to silence him. "I said I'm sorry, but something really important came in between." He was surprised about how steady his voice sounded although his heart was trying to burst his chest, going a thousand miles an hour.

A big part of the redhead couldn't really even believe this, the moment feeling somewhat unreal. Toshiya was really turning his date down, because he had asked him? It created a whole flock of butterflies in his stomach and he couldn't hold back a small smile to curve his lips. Still, he didn't know what to do, and how they should go on from there now.

Toshiya felt weird and he knew that this would be the end of offering. Now it was Die's turn to give, to run after him if he was serious about this. After closing his belt, he wordlessly left the room. Toshiya's security was only pretended though, something he had learned during drama class, because inwardly he was melting, afraid that he demanded too much at once. But he had taken his decision and had to stick to it.

Being left alone, Die plopped down weakly on the nearest bench, burying his face into his palms and just taking several deep breaths to calm down. He had no idea what he had gotten himself into, he had no idea how to react to anything right now. But he knew that after asking Toshiya to cancel his date, he couldn't just leave it at that. He had to do SOMETHING although he wasn't sure yet what that something was. After getting a grip of himself somewhat, he just collected all the possible courage he could manage, heading towards the room he shared with the black-haired teen in the hopes to find him there.
