[livejournal.com profile] fonulyn: Okay, the story goes on. I personally think this part is a lot more disturbing than what happened before. Writing it made me feel bad even, but I think it turned out like it needed to. You read yourselves and see what you think.

[livejournal.com profile] seinen_no: Yeah, I more than agree. It felt weird to write this part and I felt bad even. But don't worry, it's not too bad (I think) and it was needed. I hope you like it still and you won't kill us afterwards or so :D And now enjoy...

The walk of life
Chapter 4: Isolation

The days began to follow the same patterns again, but this time something was different. Maybe it was just that they weren't that sexually frustrated anymore, after developing some sort of frequency in doing each other. Another thing that helped was that they began to trust each other more and more, and were growing more into the friendship as well. Even though both had made clear that they weren't gay and that it was only sexually, sharing something like that increased the trust even and soon they were both totally calm as long as the other was there to watch his back.

One night, Die had just slipped into Kaoru's bed, the lights went on and wardens banged their batons against the grids. "Everybody out! Line up! And no talking." Quickly, they stepped out of their cell, leaning against the wall. The bulge in Kaoru's boxers was clearly visible and he took a few deep breaths to calm himself down.

"Cell search," Yamada announced and went in with another guard.

Die frowned, casting a questioning glance at the other. What was the reason for cell search now? This had been happening more lately than before, and it was beginning to make them all uncomfortable. It felt like some of the wardens had especially taken Die and Kaoru as the ones they kept an eye on mostly.

The most ridiculous thing was that neither of them was dealing with drugs or other hot ware. It was just to humiliate them for some strange reason. Wearing a dirty grin, Yamada stepped out of the cell, a bottle of liquor in his hand. "Whose is it?" Kaoru cast a questioning glance at his cellmate who shook his head almost imperceptibly. They had tried to get some, but so far hadn't managed.

"It doesn't belong to us," Kaoru explained calmly, holding the warden's gaze. "Do you want to tell me that I'm lying?" The dirty grin was still in Yamada's ugly visage. "No, I just say that it's not ours."

"He's right. We've never seen that before." Die decided to confirm the other's words, although he didn't know if it was a good or a bad idea. Judging by the look on Yamada's face it hadn't been a clever thing to do though. He stepped closer, eyeing the two prisoners intensely. "So you indeed are implying I'm lying..."

To prevent further harm, Kaoru took a step forward. "Okay, it's mine." He thought it would be better not to tease the man whose foul breath struck his face and made him want to throw up. Wordlessly, Yamada handed the bottle to his fellow warden. "That's two days of solitude for the liquor." The man grinned and looked at Die intensely. "And two more for accusing me to lie."

The redhead almost opened his mouth to say something, but decided against it, knowing it would only make things worse. So he averted his gaze to the ground, trying to ignore the grinning warden.

They cuffed Kaoru, without giving him the time to get dressed. Outwardly, he was completely calm, but inwardly dying from fear. It was shown in his eyes when he cast a short glance at Die before the guards dragged him away.

He had heard a lot horror stories about solitude and believed every single one. As long as one was free, in the outside world, one would think that it can't be too bad to spend a couple of days alone in a dark cell, but after spending only one week in prison, one knew how terrifying the mere thought was.

Die felt truly helpless, as he only had to watch how the other was taken away. And he feared for himself as well, as he knew this was the opportunity for everyone to attack him as well as he lost the safety Kaoru's proximity provided. Some people were probably cheering, since they had noticed that the two of them were really good in defending each other.

It began that very night already when Yamada passed by Die's cell like accidentally and leaned against the grid. "Don't worry. You won't be lonely for long. I will pay you a visit later."

As Kaoru was thrown into the darkness of the small cell, he sat down on the floor in one corner, hugging his knees to his chest. The silence that surrounded him was oppressing and reached for his heart with icy fingers. He would've never imagined that he would crave for the usual sounds of the night, but he did; his own heartbeat sounding too loud in his ears. It didn't take long and he found himself crying, surrendering to the fear and loneliness that was engulfing him. His only conscious thought was directed to Die and he was hoping that he would survive without him.

Kaoru was occupying Die's thoughts as well. He had never been in isolation himself, but he knew it was hard and every single man who returned from there was somewhat broken. Somehow, he was worried about the other, although he didn't really want to admit it to himself. Another thing that kept him from sleeping was what Yamada had said, since he knew that the warden might just appear there and demand God knows what. And how was he supposed to defend himself then? He would just have to try, and not sleep so that he wouldn't be taken off guard.

Very much to his surprise, the warden didn't show up that night. Supposedly, he was enjoying Die's fear and the fact that he didn't know what would happen and when. However, the early morning shower proved to be a real gauntlet since there were a lot of guys who were eager to lay hands on the redhead. And now that he was alone, the first one approached him right after he had stepped under the spray. "Hey Die. Without your watchdog?" the man drawled teasingly and put both hands on his butt.

Kaoru, however, had no idea what time it was, nor if it was day or night. At one point, he had begun to hate himself for taking the guilt but then again dropped it. The tears had subsided and had made way for an utter feeling of loneliness. So he clung to good memories, tried to imagine his ex girlfriend, the feeling of racing his motorcycle along the highway and the sight of a sunrise at the ocean. At one point, his thoughts travelled back to Die, even though he had tried to avoid it.

Somehow Die managed through the showering, slapping away the hands that were touching him, and eventually just fleeing the place as fast as he was able to. Even in the cafeteria, during breakfast, people gave him odd looks and laughs, and he had never felt so alone before. Not even before Kaoru had come to prison and he had truly been alone then. He feared the way to the laundry room as well but he couldn't do anything about it as he still had to go there to work. Somehow he managed though, and was utterly relieved when he got back to the cell in the evening, although he had had to skip his usual pauses outside since he just didn't dare to go there.

Kaoru felt more dead than alive, felt godforsaken and only the few moments when some food was shoved through a small slid in the door allowed him to see some light. The ground was hard and terribly cold, the small blanket he had totally insufficient to cover his whole form.

It was the second night since Kaoru had been thrown into solitude when the door to Die's cell was opened and Yamada stepped in.

The sound of the opening door made Die's heart beat faster in fear, and he fought with himself to just stay still and pretend to sleep. He knew it would do no good if he tried to run or anything, since there really was no place to hide.

His blanket was yanked away and the rough voice of the guard sounded commanding. "Get up, Die."

Wordlessly the redhead sat up, looking at the form that was standing in front of him.

The tall man grinned contently and lit Die's face with his flashlight directly. He noticed the fear in the other's eyes and it made him grin even wider. Running his spread fingers through Die's hair almost lovingly, he spoke softly. "Don't be afraid. I won't fuck your tight sweet ass." He bowed down. "Yet."

The words made Die's eyes widen slightly, but he managed to hold back the gasp that threatened to break free. He would've just wanted to hit the other's arm away, to tell him not to touch him, but knew that would do more harm than good. So he forced himself to stay still, and tried to make his voice sound as steady as possible. "What do you want? People are supposed to sleep at this hour."

"You are quite bold for a person in your position." Die's comment seemed to amuse Yamada and he ran his thumb over the redhead's lips, pushing it inside his mouth. "I thought you could do me a favor. You have such a nice mouth and I bet you do Niikura well. Or do you think I should try his ass instead? It is quite tempting, you know."

Die closed his eyes for a moment, trying to calm his frantically beating heart. "Leave him out of this." He didn't know where it came from, but his first instinct was to keep the warden away from Kaoru. Maybe it was because he was so used to defend his cellmate while the other did the same for him.

"But if I do that, you need to give me something in return." The hand was back in Die's hair, but this time pulled forcefully. "Open my pants and suck me." The voice had changed, the teasing undertone making way for the usual commanding one.

The redhead swallowed hard, the instinct to run stronger than ever. He was trapped though, left with practically no alternatives, and so he ignored the shaking of his hands and opened the button of the warden's pants.

"I knew you'd be reasonable," Yamada purred. He still held Die's hair in his grasp and kept the light directed at his face. He was known to take more delight in the power he had over others and the fear he evoked in them than in the mere act itself, drinking in his victim's desperation.

It was probably the worst thing Die had gone through in his life if one asked him. He tried to force himself to think of other things, and not what he was doing. The grip on his hair tightened all along and the flashlight was blinding him since it was directed straight at his face, and he tried to concentrate on the slight pain and the burning behind his eyes to distract himself.

Yamada groaned lowly. Holding Die's head in place, he forced his way deep inside his throat. Not only didn't he care that the other was choking and tears ran down his cheeks, it increased his own pleasure. Luckily, he didn't need long before he spilled his seed in Die's mouth, commanding him to swallow it.

Die was swallowing tears along with the other's release, trying to gasp for breath. He felt dirty, and wanted to just crawl somewhere silent to cry, but the warden was still firmly holding his hair.

"Good boy." Finally, Yamada let go off his head and buttoned his pants. Then, he grabbed Die's chin between his thumb and his index finger, smirking evilly. "We will repeat this some time." With having said that, he left him alone in his misery.

The redhead crawled back to his bunk, not bothering to pull the blanket over himself. He was tired and miserable, and allowed the tears to fall freely, not able to hold them back any longer. He had never felt so utterly bad. It took him long to calm down enough to be able to sleep, and even then it was only possible since he was so exhausted. And as he was drifting off, the last calming subconscious thought was an image of his cellmate.

When the door opened and the room suddenly was flooded with bright light, Kaoru crawled into a corner, hiding like a scared animal and shielding his eyes. "Niikura. Your time's up." All he could think was that he was glad that it wasn't Yamada who brought him back to his cell and that he wasn't cuffed for the walk.

Very slowly, his eyes got used to the lights and although it still stung and caused tears to run down his cheeks, he could see blurred shapes and figures. "Is it day or night?" he asked the guard and was told that it was late evening, shortly before shut down. Somehow that calmed Kaoru down a bit, because he would have the night to recover before he had to work again. Besides, he would have somebody to watch him again and to talk to.

After Yamada's visit Die had acted more like a robot than a human being, trying to just simply forget the happenings and survive the days. He was practically counting minutes till Kaoru would return to the cell, fearing that the warden would pay him another visit meanwhile.

Kaoru saw him flinch when the door was opened and it caused a bad feeling inside him. However, he felt bad anyways, worse than that. Almost at the same moment as the guard left, the lights went out and made Kaoru panic. He just couldn't move and only stood there glued to the ground with shaking limbs.

For a moment the redhead just waited for the other to go to his bed or something, but he didn't move. After a while he got up himself, and walked to the other, closing his arms around him and burying his face into his neck. The stress of the past days all somehow hit him, and he clung to the other and tried hard not to cry.

Automatically, Kaoru wrapped his arms around Die's waist and leaned into the embrace. The warmth that was devolving on him slowly defrosted his insides that had been numbed by an eternal cold.

He hadn't flinched when the other had approached him and now all the fear and the terror of solitude was searching for a channel and made him cry. "It was horrible," he whispered under his breath, a few sobs shaking his body. Feeling the sobs shake the other man broke Die's barriers as well, and tears filled his eyes. He opened his mouth to say something, but wasn't able to steady his voice enough and in the end just gave up.

They stood there for a long time, comforting each other with their proximity. No further words were exchanged, not even as Kaoru crawled into Die's bed like naturally, simply needing some human contact and shelter. Throughout the whole night, he clung to the other man, sucked in his warmth and felt safe for the first time within four days.

It was like the most natural thing in the whole world to sleep there hugging each other. And even Die managed to sleep rather peacefully, not being haunted by the memory of Yamada's visit or the fear of the others attacking him in the shower while he was alone.

They didn't mention this night with one single word later on. Like in silent stipulation, they plainly erased it from their thoughts as it seemed; just as they didn't speak about what had happened while Kaoru had been away. Only every now and then, the remembrance of the night when he had returned caused a pleasant warmth to run through him and made him smile.

Despite that, everything went back to normal. The assaults in the morning showers stopped once they displayed unity again and even Yamada seemed to have lost interest for the time being, leaving them alone. Still seeing the warden always managed to make Die flinch a bit, which obviously made the man happy about himself. Life returned back to normal for them, and after some time if felt like the other had never been away.

But something did change. And even though neither of them would've ever admitted it, it still was obvious. The way how they were talking to each other had changed. Whenever they were alone and addressed each other, the tone was more soft, indicating that their feelings had changed. Neither of them seemed to noticed it though or then, they ignored or denied it. At least, none addressed the topic ever. But even the blowjobs they were still providing regularly had become more intense and less unresponsive for the one who gave it.

It was easy to ignore the slight changes though, especially since they both were determined to go on like this and made themselves believe that it was nothing. But even the topics they talked about changed, and they found out more about the other's thoughts than ever before during the time they had known each other.
