I said it again, but I will now repeat myself and tell you that I really like this story, and recommend you to give it a shot^^ Hah, there ya go. Another brainless comment.
seinen_no: Hmm, what's left for me to say? Nothing much XD I hope you'll have as much fun reading this as we had writing it. And there's more to come still. Heh, just keep in mind that this is not a 'real' prison and everything's just our imagination... So don't expect any realistic everyday life in our prison^^
Here’s Part 1 in case you missed it.
The walk of life
Chapter 2: Teaming up
The morning came just like the morning before, just like every morning did. The lights went on and the doors opened, and again it was time to start a new day. Die always woke up around five minutes before the lights went on, and so he sat up in his bunk rather quickly.
Kaoru opened his eyes when one of the guards banged his baton against the grids and yelled something about pussys that have to shower. He sat up and rubbed his eyes, thinking about just skipping the showers this morning.
Technically it wasn't an option to skip the showering, since they were supposed to all shower each morning. Die had tried to avoid it in the beginning, but noticed it was in vain and now just collected himself and left to the shower room silently.
Since Kaoru just remained where he was, he was soon addressed by another guard who was searching the cells. "Hey, newbie. Shower's for everyone. Don't want to smell like a skunk, do you?"
The guy was at least two heads taller than Kaoru and didn't look exactly friendly. So he obeyed, collected his towel and soap and quickly left. His heart was beating even quicker than the day before because all the showers in the corners were already taken and he did notice the glances some of the inmates cast at him when he undressed. However, he tried to ignore it and just to get over with this routine as quickly as possible.
One never really got used to showering here, at least if you asked Die about it. It was like a test of your senses, how well you were able to notice everything around you in case something would happen.
When Kaoru spotted three guys slowly moving towards him, he didn't care for rinsing the soap off his body, and instead turned off the tap and grabbed his towel. Although it looked like, and was, a flight, he couldn't bring himself to care and left with only the towel wrapped around his hips. In the small room before the showers, he quickly stepped into his pants and put his shirt on.
Die had noticed the flight as well, and as he glanced over his shoulder he even recognized the guys whom had approached his cell mate. Those were the ones whom were known to approach everyone at one point.
Kaoru still heard their laughter and their jokes, as well as he heard them telling that he could run but not hide from them. Outside in the corridor, he leaned against the wall and closed his eyes for a moment, trying to control his frantically beating heart.
Soon Die stepped into the corridor as well. He couldn't help but to cast a compassionate glance at his new cellmate, but didn't say anything, and only headed towards the dining room for breakfast, just like every single morning.
After taking a few deep breaths, Kaoru had gained so much control that he could walk again and slowly made his way to the dining room. 'Yep, that went well,' he thought to himself, displaying a sarcastic smile. So much for playing the untouchable cool in there. Without thinking about it, he carried his tray to the table his cellmate was already occupying and sat down. He didn't say anything and just concentrated on eating without tearing his eyes off his plate.
Die wanted to say something to the other about the happenings, but he didn't know how. So he ended up staring at his plate, eating his food silently.
This time, Kaoru was done before the redhead and already got up to take his tray where it belonged. He was seeking for the peaceful silence in the laundry and quickly headed there without going into the yard first.
As every morning, Die again went outside for a moment, simply needing it. It didn't take long though, and soon he entered the laundry room where Kaoru was busily folding some sheets and stored them into the shelves. He only looked up shortly when Die entered the room, giving him a small nod.
The redhead nodded as well and began to help folding the laundry. He still wanted to say something, but there really wasn't anything to be said. So again he remained silent, trying to concentrate on working.
The silence which had been comforting the day before now seemed to suffocate Kaoru and he had to admit that he wouldn't last long without somebody to talk to. The embarrassment about the happenings in the shower kept him from starting a conversation though. As much as the fact that he truly felt like crying.
Time passed in silence, until the clock reached noon almost. Then Die stopped in folding the laundry, and looked straight at the other, speaking up with a rather soft voice. "We need to go and eat."
Kaoru swallowed and then shook his head. "I'm not hungry. I will stay here." He truly didn't feel like going anywhere at that moment.
For a few seconds the redhead staid silent, a bit in the lack of words. "Nothing's going to happen there. Come on." He tried.
A faint smile appeared on the other man's lips and he nodded. "I know." He took a deep breath and then looked straight back at Die. "Just gimme a minute. I will follow."
"Okay." Die nodded agreeing, heading for the dining room. He knew it wouldn't be of any use to skip eating because of incidents like that, since then it might happen that you end up skipping eating always.
At the second the other was gone, Kaoru flopped down on the ground and buried his face in his hands. It wasn't just the happenings in the shower, it was somehow everything that seemed to have conspired against him. It took a few minutes, before he was able to make his face look as casual as possible and he could follow Die.
The food was the same nameless stuff as the day before, and Die kept on staring at his plate while eating. It had been quiet for him for several days now, although he had had his own problems with the other prisoners previously. Nothing serious though, and he knew he needed to thank his luck for that.
Kaoru was casting covert glances at him every now and then. He was thankful for his kindness and thought that he could've gotten a worse cellmate than the redhead. However, he admonished himself not to be too enthusiastic about this and tried to choke down the mass that they called food in here.
Die was done sooner than Kaoru, and as he didn't want to just stay and wait there, he got up and took his tray away. It was raining outside when he went there as always, and so he didn't stay and got back inside to go to the laundry room.
He was in the last corridor before his destination, when he heard a voice call him from behind. "Hey, Die. Stop."
He recognized the voice, and his eyes widened slightly as he had definitely wanted to avoid the owner of that voice. "Look, I don't have anything to say to you." He tried to keep his voice firm, and sound as self confident as possible, but inwardly he was shaking slightly.
The man blocked his way though and suddenly two more appeared behind the redhead. "You don't have anything to say? You're a bad boy. Did you think we let you get away this easily?" The two others had approached them as well and there was no way to escape.
Kaoru turned around the corner just in time to witness the redhead being dragged through one of the doors and froze in his movement.
Die tried to struggle, but two of the guys had grabbed him and he wasn't as strong as they were anyways. "Let me go." He tried not to sound pleading, and to keep his calmness, but his voice gave away that he was shocked.
"Not before we had some fun together." The third guy reached for the button of the redhead's pants, quickly dragging the garment down while the other two held him down.
Kaoru hadn't hesitated for long and had followed them, but then, the handle already in his hand, he stopped for a second. It was three against two as far as he had seen and those guys looked threatening. However, he took a deep breath, flung the door open and jumped into the room.
Without processing what was going on at once, he yanked away one of the guys who held the redhead, but suddenly, a burning pain shot through him from his temple and blurred his vision. It caused him to stumble a few steps backwards, holding his eye.
As one of the guy was dragged away from him, and the others got distracted for a moment, Die was able to hit the one who was still holding him in the face with his elbow. He kicked the guy to get him off himself, somehow frantically just trying to survive the situation although there were three big guys against them.
Suddenly, the door opened and another inmate shouted "Guard!" and disappeared again. Every movement stopped and just when Die had managed to drag up his pants, not able to close them yet, the door opened again and two guards stepped inside.
"What's going on here?" Five heads shook simultaneously. "Nothing," Kaoru explained, still holding his eye. He knew that nothing was more dangerous than to peach on somebody.
"Are you sure?" The guard arched an eyebrow and when the black-haired and the others again nodded, he shrugged his shoulders. "Okay, I guess you have to be in the laundry and you three," he turned to the other men, "don't belong here anyways."
As calmly as possible, Kaoru passed the guards, heading for the door. But he was held back by one. "We have an eye on you, newbie. Next time, it's solitude."
Die closed his pants quickly, hoping no one would notice, and then followed his cellmate through the door. He was surprisingly calm, but as soon as they got into the laundry room he began shaking. He closed his eyes, letting out a sigh and leaning against the washing machine.
If the other hadn't helped him, he knew he would've had no chances, and he didn't want to think about what would've definitely happened then. So he looked the smaller man in the eye seriously. "Thanks. I owe you."
"It's okay." Kaoru was pressing a cold wet cloth on his eye which was swollen and turned purple already.
To his own surprise, he really meant it. He hadn't helped Die to get some profit out of it. He was shaking as well, glad that the guards had shown up. "Are you alright?"
"Guess so." The redhead nodded. He had got some mean hits in his stomach and shoulders, but it wasn't anything more than a couple of bruises probably. The shock played a far bigger part. "Thanks to you."
Wordlessly, Kaoru nodded towards the small room with the washing machines and the tumbler. He knew that there were no cameras and when they had closed the door behind them, he dug out his cigarettes and offered one to the other man. "It was nothing. Could've been me as well." He flinched noticeably at his own words when the truth they held struck him.
"It takes a lot of guts to do what you did." Die nodded thankfully for the cigarette, truly needing it. His hands were shaking badly, and his heart still beating too fast. "Still, I owe you one."
Kaoru smiled wearily and took a few deep drags from his cig before he addressed the other again. "Look, maybe we should look out for each other. Keep our backs free," he suggested. Since he couldn't anticipate the other members of his clan to help him, it was the most clever thing to at least team up with somebody. So why not with his cellmate who seemed to be reliable.
"Okay." It didn't take more than a few seconds for the redhead to agree. "It's no use to try against them alone." He appreciated the suggestion, now more than ever since the past experience was still making adrenaline course through his veins.
"So we try to stick together. Never go anywhere alone or without telling the other where to and how long it'll take." In his mind, Kaoru had made up a plan already and now reached out his hand to seal the deal. The first human touch since he had stepped into this establishment.
Die took the offered hand, even smiling at the other. "Deal. Let's try to live through this."
His hand was as cold and sweaty as Kaoru's. The shock still lingering in both of them. Yet, this deal made the smaller man considerably calmer and only a few minutes later, they were working again side by side.
And they both kept the deal. They hardly ever went anywhere alone, accompanying each other just for safety reasons. Die followed Kaoru to the library even, although he had never really spent much time there.
With spending so much time together, they were learning from each other. Die, that reading books from time to time didn't harm anybody and could be even enjoyable and Kaoru where to buy precious things like cigarettes and porn magazines.
Die also told him everything about the inmates he knew and how to avoid the guards as best as possible. He explained about Yamada, the guard that was most feared amongst the inmates for he was worse than most of them. A tall, aggressive guy who was known to have a thing for men.
The day came where they would be allowed to have visitors and Kaoru couldn't hide the happiness about the fact that he would see his girlfriend again. Smiling, he looked into the tiny mirror in their cell and turned to the redhead. "Do you have a girl waiting for you outside?"
Die smiled a bit, shaking his head. "No. I just managed to have a break up a few days before I got in here." He couldn't deny it would be nice to have someone waiting for him, but he couldn't change how things were.
"What a pity." Kaoru nodded compassionately, but he was too high-spirited to stop smiling.
Since Die didn't have any visitors that day, he went alone, his heart beating quickly in sweet anticipation to see his girl again.
The redhead staid in the cell, not in the mood to get anywhere right now. He trusted that Kaoru would survive the way to the visiting rooms and back alone, because there were guards everywhere, and didn't go to accompany him on the way.
Not fifteen minutes later, Kaoru returned, his face petrified. He flopped down on one of the chairs that stood at the small table in their cell. "Fuck it."
"Something wrong?" Die stood up, instinctively touching the other's shoulder. "She wasn't there?"
"Oh no." Kaoru shook his head, gazing at his hands on the table. "She came. Only to break up with me." He sighed. He had just lost the only thing that had made him go on inside here. After he had realized that his boss would never bail him out and rather left him to rot inside those walls, the thought of his girlfriend had been his last straw.
The redhead fell silent, not knowing what to say. He felt truly sorry for the other, as they had even developed some sort of friendship. Finally he spoke up, but it was just a lame "I'm sorry."
"It's okay." Kaoru waved aside, trying to sound as if he wouldn't care and not to show how much it pained him. He forced a smile on his lips and looked straight at the other. "And that bitch wore my favourite dress..."
Somehow that made Die feel even more sorry for him, and he would've wanted to do something to cheer him up. But he didn't know what, and only slightly smiled. "Think of the positive sides. Now you're free to test all the hot chicks once you get out."
"Yeah, true." The black-haired nodded. "Maybe it's better this way. I mean, when I'm not bound once I come out." His smile widened a bit, although it was still forced, and he dug out the playing cards they had borrowed. "Well, since I'm free tonight. How about a round of poker?"
"Sounds like a deal." Die nodded instantly, sitting down. "Too bad we get no booze here to drown the sorrows in it."
"I would give the wage of a whole month for decent whiskey." This time, the smaller man's smile was honest. Inwardly he made up his mind to buy some booze somehow. It was hellishly expensive and moreover dangerous if one got caught with it, but still worth the effort in his eyes.
"Me too." The redhead agreed, smiling back. "Or basically I would pay for anything with alcohol in it."
He really enjoyed the moments when they were playing cards, as it gave him something to do. After the two months he'd spent practically alone it was more than nice. They were playing until the lights went out and although they sometimes still went on, using a flashlight which Die had managed to organize somehow, they called it a day and went to bed. Kaoru was lying awake in his bunk, his thoughts trailing off to his girlfriend, now ex.
Die didn't really even think anything tonight either, but for some reason couldn't sleep still. He was staring into the darkness, trying not to mind the every-night sounds that were resonating in the air from somewhere.
Kaoru couldn't help it, but the thought of his girlfriend, the dress she had worn and the nights they had spent before he had been sent to jail quickened his heartbeat and heat gathered in his groin. Not even the distant noises could distract him and he slowly travelled his hand southwards, sighing softly as it reached its destination.
The redhead noticed that the other's breathing seemed to get heavier, and almost instantly he knew what was going on in the top bunk. He just closed his eyes and tried to sleep though, knowing that it wasn't his business, as well as it wasn't the other's business when he was at it.
For those few moments of pleasure, Kaoru felt good, almost free and although he tried to be quiet and move as little as possible, he knew that one could hear what he was doing. But he didn't care. In a place like this, one lost a bit dignity every day. Besides, everybody was doing it, that was for sure. At least the ones who didn't switch and suddenly played for the other team. Afterwards, he felt deliciously tired and just turned around, instantly falling asleep.
Die was unable to fall asleep, even after the other man was breathing steadily in the top bunk, obviously sleeping. For a long time he hadn't done anything to satisfy himself, but now he almost subconsciously travelled his hand down to his crotch. By pressing his face into the pillow he muffled the small sounds that escaped his lips, and staid like that even after the last waves of pleasure were fading. Afterwards it didn't take long before he fell asleep, his mind blissfully empty of all thoughts.
