This, my dear, was PERFECT! I loved that it ended happily for mingboon, even if it wasn't all sunshine and butterflies. I like the note of realism to it, anything else would have been wrong for the times. I really do hope they can keep together like this and that Changho won't cause too much trouble with his drinking and stuff...
Gwiboon’s fingers are soft on Minjung’s cheek as she traces her features, brushes over her full lower lip and the narrow arch of her nose. “But I wanted the children. I thought… Changho looks like you. So I figured, if he looks like you… the baby would look like you, too.”
Before, Minjung didn’t know that she could feel overflowing happiness and sheer pain, both at the same time.
I think this was the second time I cried while reading this chapter.
He leaves without another word. Gwiboon feels like she’s still asleep, none of that could’ve possibly been real. She sits there for hours, until she hears the cook unlock the backdoor and Hyein begin her morning routines. Her tea has gone cold and her palm is still throbbing, but inside she feels like the storm is finally settling.
She feels oddly calm.
I absolutely loved this bit, and what it conveys.
In every way that matters, you’ve always been my husband. Your place is with me.”
TEARS. AGAIN.
Changho is already passed out, lying on the couch where he landed ungracefully. He still looks angry, even in sleep, as if it’s burning inside of him so strong he can’t let go of it even for a second. His hatred has been festering so long there’s no way out of it anymore.
Some very good writing in that paragraph. I do hope he won't mess stuff up too much. I mean, even if mingboon can stay together cause he wants to keep appearances up, it seems appearances are already crumbling if people are beginning to talk this way about them. I'm worried, but I hope it all works out, somehow... If Changho just gets his shit together, this is perfectly doable. Nobody in that age would have batted an eye about two women helping each-other out, taking care of children together, not even sleeping in the same bed. Lesbianism didn't exist as a concept, cause women weren't thought to have those "urges". But maybe Changho's drunkeness can also help them in that way? People will understand why Gwiboon needs Minjung by her side. Anyway, I'm just rambling now XD
I loved all the little moments between mingboon and the girls. So sweet, the whole first half of this part just made me go awwwwwwwwwww a lot. And I can just imagine them all curled up on that bed in their private moments. On the whole I liked that you kept it kind of chaste, would have been weird with a sex scene in the middle of all of this, and it's more food for the imagination anyway (or you can just choose to imagine they stopped at kissing, if you prefer that.)
And OMG JINKI! So much love, I fell quite in love with his quiet, calm, wise, kind of poetic doctor ;____; I want him to read a story about him finding the love of his life now too ;____; He deserves it. It all makes me wonder what his story is, why he is so accepting of TEH GAY.
Anyhow, I loved this fic to bits. It pleased the romantic in me muchly, and it was a feast for the senses in so many ways, thanks to your outstanding writing.
